The Flames did not draft a first rounder in 2018 so this could help add an age need piece for the team but with Sutter as coach I don’t see a guaranteed NHL spot being spoon fed to a 21 year old who can’t crack the Rangers.
He seems like a guy who'd bolt to the KHL if he didn't like his development here.

That's the risk. Comes down to how one projects the player. But it seems like the average price for a once high pedigree prospect who has underachieved is about a 2nd.
Maybe you can reduce that down to a 3rd+prospect of some sort.
Is this kid an NHLer not being given a shot or is it a Sven situation where he has a lot of skill but his head just isn't screwed on right, so he views the AHL as a "punishment" instead of a "learning opportunity"
BTW it's a nice bit of schadenfreude to see the Rangers on the other end of one of these.

The AHL is a tough league to play in, it is much close to feeling like "work" then the NHL. Trouble is most of these kids have likely never held a job, and have lost sight of the fact that you need to work for your money.
I haven't seen him. I suppose it may be that there are too many guys in front of him. Top six he'd have to dislodge Kreider and Kaako. Bottom six I'm not sure he can do the job of Goodrow or Reaves.
He's a LHS playing RW, for some reason. But even if you move him to LW, there's Panarin and Lafreniere in the top six and they are going nowhere.
He was tied for the lead in goals on his KHL team at 20 years old. That's fairly impressive.
Big and toolsy youngin' that can forecheck well and has a great shot. Sutter might be creaming his pants at a chance to develop this kid...
I guess. Except that he was well back in points. He's a shooter I suppose. And the others on his team ahead of him weren't studs either. Looking at those highlights he has a decent shot (man the goaltending sucked though). Can't tell if he can skate well.

Flames need RW help. Except he's a lefty.
Certainly wasn’t sniping in those highlights eh… much more finding holes in the goalie and I’m not convinced they were skillfully executed.

I suppose his release maybe is deceptive. I guess a lot of goalscorers look lucky in their highlights. For me - does he have true NHL wheels, can he play his size and will he go to the net hard?

Russians almost always play off wing for the better shooting angle. Ovechkin e.g. is a righty who plays LW. Buchenvich is a lefty who plays RW.

Having spent a lot of time in Russia. The viewpoints are just different. You have to understand that these players are coming across the world to play hockey. They leave behind their families and friends. To them, you can't just say...you should feel priveleged that you are getting to play this sport. He doesn't want to sit in some backyard place small town Hartford. He would rather go back home and be with his family.
Also - the thing is the guy is actually a skilled player. It seems that young Russian kids require a lot of positive reinforcement and coddling until you hope they eventually mature and turn into men. Kind of like Buchnevich who is a pretty good player now.
