He's likely on his parents' insurance which he can only be on for a certain amount of time. He and many of the survivors are going to need counselling. The costs for that that are covered by insurance tends to be limited, from experience. Same with physio.

A lot of fees and costs that can add up pretty quick. And as redforever said, court cases can take years and a lot of these needs can't wait. My husband's aunt and uncle and their son were in a major accident near Jasper in 2009. The court case was settled in 2014 I think. His aunt didn't return home for 6 months after the accident - they live in Prince George and based on the accident location, were taken to Edmonton for care. From Edmonton, she went to GF Strong rehab in Vancouver. Her injuries were vast and they weren't sure she'd walk again (she does, but with deficits) - a major concussion causing her brain to swell, broke several ribs and her lungs collapsed. It was not initially detected by MRI and CT scans but she also had an internal decapitation. A razor-thin speck of tissue in her C1 vertebrae was all that kept her from dying - 1 mm. I know there was a lot that wasn't covered for them x 3 people. Lifelong things that will need to be paid for somehow.

This is why the gofundme money will be so important moving forward.

The team will distribute the funds where needed.

Oh man. Just heart broken. I checked in with a good friend in Slave Lake. His son was Connor Lukans best friend who id met but didn't know. He also introduced me to Darcy Hogan when we were in Peace River a while ago. I didn't know either of them at all, but still hurts.

This just hits so close to home and so many people.

This is sad. A staple of so many bus rides.

My Husband was wondering what the hell I was doing going out to the garage and then putting hockey sticks on the porch, showed him the post and he’s like oh ok.

At our league playoff game tonight we had a moment of silence at centre ice. I suspect that also happened at rinks across the country today.

I am devastated by this. I guess my way of coping is to read every news article and story I can find, watch several newscasts, look at lots of video, read tweets of support.

I did the same thing after 9-11.

^ my son was at an AJHL camp. the coaches asked the boys to make black armbands out of tape, and then they gathered at center ice before the game started.

We had a moment in our room before our playoff game on Saturday, and I know that the team we played did the same. I always love playing hockey, but Saturday felt extra special just knowing that everyone on that bus shared that same love of the game.

Ugh...

Word out this morning that one of the kids identified as being deceased in the crash is in fact alive, and one of the other boys is the one who passed away.

Just brutal for the families.

Quote:
Two of the players were initially misidentified, the provincial Justice Ministry announced Monday: Goalie Parker Tobin was killed, not defenceman Xavier Labelle as originally reported. The coroner’s office apologized for the error.

Hopefully they were just misidentified on the RCMP release yesterday,I expect those close to the situation would have known who did and did not survive late Friday.

Not that that's much better.

Oh man, Boomer is reading off tributes to each victim right now on 960.
Tough to listen to, and I'm sure it's the toughest thing he'll do professionally.

Really sad and heartbreaking show on The Fan 960 this morning. Very difficult to listen to, but also very important.

Kudos to the hosts for doing this. It needs to be done but I can't imagine how hard it must be for them to do this.

Not that that's much better.

Unfortunately not the case.

They had the wrong names and pictures up at the vigil last night.

Just so sad for the families involved.

Also tends to indicate just how violent this collision was. Some survivors are, literally, unrecognizable.

The guys at SNW and S960 have done a truly beautiful job trying to pay tribute to these poor kids and I respect them all so much more as a collective for their efforts the past few days. Even the other night with Steinberg taking the time limit off Overtime and airing til like 2:30 AM just so that people could pay their respects to the victims, which dozens did.
