That's interesting....

Zary, Pelletier and Wolf in Stockton?

Wolf in particular. What's left for him to accomplish in the WHL?

Don't forget about Poirier, Francis, and Kerins.

Poirier in particular might benefit from getting direct coaching from Flames staff and seeing how he needs to defend in the pro levels.

The taxi squad is going to create some openings in Stockton.

two weeks away; I assume California has a quarantine period; are the players in Stockton, or are they still in Calgary?

Looks like Calgary may be hosting the Heat

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Strong chance the Stockton Heat play in Calgary this AHL season. Needs provincial approval, but health officials in California aren’t able to sign off on the Heat playing in their county. If Alberta clears, the Heat are likely sharing Calgary with the Flames.

Due to the restrictions on cross-border travel, does that mean that the Heat would move from the Pacific division to the Canadian division?

https://theahl.com/28-teams-participate-2020-21-season

The AHL just released their schedule today, and the Heat are playing exclusively against teams in the US-based Pacific division.

They would definitely have to change to the Canadian division if they played in Calgary.

I am doing some freelance writing for the Stockton Heat this year. I contacted the Communications Director and he said both Stockton and Calgary are aware of this tweet but cannot confirm the reporting right now.

You have to wonder if the Heat have played their last game in Stockton with the talk of the move to Colorado Springs last year

looks like this confirmed

https://www.recordnet.com/story/news...on/4252186001/

Quote:
The Stockton Heat professional hockey team will not be playing in the city this season.

City and county officials confirmed that the franchise has decided to play its games in Calgary, Alberta, the hometown of its NHL parent organization, the Calgary Flames. The news comes just days after the Heat released its 2021 schedule. The decision does not mean the team will not return to Stockton in the future, according to city officials.

Officials with the Flames and Heat declined to comment on the situation. Stockton community relations officer Connie Cochran said the city was informed late last week that the American Hockey League franchise would be playing in Canada, reportedly because of COVID-19 concerns.

The Heat’s original five-year lease to play at Stockton Arena officially ended last season, but the team and city agreed to a one-season extension this season while contract negotiations continued.

“From what I understand, they felt they were at a point where they had to make a decision where they would play this season, and they made it,” Cochran said. “That doesn’t mean they won’t play here in the future.”

Cochran said there are not any updates on the contract situation or how the extension will be handled.

The decision came as a surprise to the Heat’s fans and at least some of its employees. On Friday, a schedule was released indicating the Heat would begin the season in Colorado on Feb. 5 and would play its first home game on Feb. 14 against the Bakersfield Condors at Stockton Arena. On the same day, Darren Dreger, an NHL writer for Canada’s The Sports Network, tweeted there was a “strong chance” the Heat would be relocating to Calgary for the season because it had not received clearance from health officials in San Joaquin County.

They were never really ever moving to Colorado Springs.

But you are correct, they may never go back to Stockton.

Last spring, there was a story out of Manteca, CA that they were looking at building a practice facility there that could potentially serve as the team's home arena too: https://www.mantecabulletin.com/news...ca-great-wolf/

Manteca is between Stockton and Modesto, but slightly closer to Stockton. It is less than 20 miles from both cities.

They're still going to be called the Stockton Heat.... despite being based in Calgary.

I think it's likely they'll stay in California. The AHL Pacific Division is pretty much a compact footprint outside of a few teams.

Still no schedule or indication as to when the Canadian Division begins play.

Other divisions began play this past weekend.

Pleased to share that I've been accredited to cover the Heat at the Saddledome this year. I'll be posting recaps of every game over at FlamesNation.ca and I'll be providing live updates on my Twitter feed (@miketgould).

It also looks like I'll have the opportunity to talk to Cail MacLean and some of the players on occasion... so that's exciting. I'll post periodic updates in this thread, as well.
