Johnston: Knights could move Pacioretty or Stastny to get under the cap
https://www.tvasports.ca/2019/06/19/...medium=ios_app
Wonder if Stastny could be a target for the Flames, although it's somewhat difficult to imagine the Knights dealing him within the division, given their past maneuvers.
IIRC Vegas is currently projected to be a couple million over the cap so they're gonna need to move some salary, and fast.

This rumor was shot down on the Fan yesterday by Jonathan Davis who is the Pacific division insider they bring on. Vegas has to shed cap though so I don’t see a fit for the Flames but perhaps for a team with plenty of cap space

I don't know who Jonathan Davis is but I trust Chris Johnston's word, he's been right about a lot of things
Edit: however this TVA post appears to be from yesterday, it's only started gaining steam on social media today

They need to shed a lot of money.
$83.125M currently with a 19 man roster, and the cap might be $81.5M?
Still need to sign Karlsson.

$5 mil of that is Clarkson’s LTIR money so it’s not quite as dire as that. I imagine that will be shipped off to Arizona at the draft, where dead contracts go to be cremated.

It's a buyer's market this summer. Lots of teams are motivated sellers because of the cap. Some fans are going to be disappointed with the return on the big-ticket players.

And the tax situation is probably even more important when you are not playing since I'm assuming you'd be taxed entirely at the state tax rate where the team is based since you're never playing out of state.

something else haha

Anytime I hear Jonathan Davis on the FAN he seems like more of a fan who tries to piece things that make sense together rather than an insider.

Too bad. The Knights are in cap problems. Only took two years. I wouldn't help them unless there is a major bonus...and even then probably not.

Vancouver has cap space, and a good young core, nice timing for them.

Same could be said of Colorado.

They really need to deal with this tax rate issue by having some sort of clearinghouse mechanism that makes each players effective tax rate equal.
As it is teams are effectively using different salary caps. 1 dollar in Arizona is different than 1 dollar in Montreal.

That Mark Stone deal. Media applauded the trade and signing. Stone is good but that is a lethal contract.

Meh. Vegas got picks to take on the Clarkson deal and will pay picks to get rid of it. An even transaction
I'd take Stone's deal on the Flames. He is an elite player.

It’s fine by itself.
More problematic was deciding to spend as much money on Pacioretty as they did IMO.

Gusev too right? I suspect he'll get more than Karlsson.
