It's the summer. This thread is the most normal thing I've read on here in weeks.

If he's a good locker room guy he may be valuable to have on your AHL team. I have to think that the better the leadership your AHL team has, the better it will be for helping young players acclimate to the pro game and lifestyle changes.

This - his coach down there talks about his leadership all the time. And really, he was a stats leader down there too (as he should be. obviously).
Plus he's a guy with NHL speed and NHL experience who won't freak out if he has to be some sort of emergency call-up.
I really wanted Lazar to work out for the Flames, but really, from what he's shown, he's trending towards being a tweener. Guy has shown no indication he can play consistently in the NHL. It's not necessarily a knock on him as I do think he tries hard. He might just not have what it takes, no matter how hard he tries. At this point, I don't see many other teams offering him a contract where he's a "priority" vs. being just another PTO "option".
I think you give him another year . He's only just turned 24. He missed a year with mono and the Senators bumbled his handling.
Lazar has never had more than 20 points in a season. He has 15 points in 70 games over three years with the Flames. He was a 61 point player in his draft year, and his +1 season he only scored 76. The production concerns were real from the start.
Because he was a 1st round pick and had a prestigious junior career, he's been given more than his share of opportunities. If he's a 5th round pick, he's Freddie Hamilton.
There are better gambles to make at this stage.
Edit: Jankowski has more points in 100 fewer games and he's just not that effective at anything beyond PK.
"Mark Jankowski without the offense" is not what we need.

We are seeing players making big impacts at younger ages all the time. True across all sports.
Doesn't mean we need to discard him but IMO we are past the point where Lazar will make the drastic improvement needed to have a meaningful impact at the NHL. If he is willing to sign for AHL money, with the chance to earn NHL minimum or so in case of a call-up, then sure, I'd do that for another year. After that, I probably wouldn't want to use one of our 50 NHL contracts on the guy.

draft +1 year ho only played 58 games, that's 14 less than in his draft year... his 94pt pace was quite good.
I'm not suggesting he's going to pan out at the NHL level, just mentioning part of your argument is a bit misleading.
