I hope that they actually prioritize goaltending this time.
They might have to pay to stabilize this position.

With what cap? Tkachuk is priority, and hopefully he isn't asking for too much.

The trade for Quick idea sure sounds more appealing to me than some of the free agent options being rumored. Wish there was actually some basis to it from some real sources though instead of it just being an idea on here. Maybe Brad reads CP?

Between Smith and Talbot it’s pretty clear we’re in for another ride on the goalie carousel next year.

Whether this is them telling him they are looking elsewhere, asking him to hold tight for now, or floating a low ball number, I would expect them to speak. Tre is a professional.

If the flames were to float ANY number to Smith, I'm sure his camp takes it in a heartbeat. Very real chance he never plays in the NHL again. 37 year old goalie with an 0.898 sv% last year? His playoff performance is the only thing still keeping him in the mix.

I will lose faith in Treliving if he brings Mike Smith back. It will prove he has no idea how to address the situation in net and maybe we need to find someone who can, as much as stability in the GM's seat is important. Just no to Smith, even if he comes in at the league minimum.

Flames talking to Smith seems like a formality, no?

It doesn't even say who initiated the call.

If its between Smith and Talbot then i would pick whichever goaltender would sign for 1 year. If they both would sign for 1 year then I would pick Smith.

Curtis McElhinney would be a good backup for David Rittich.

It has been mentioned a few times that McElhinney really soured on the Flames when he was moved, and that he will never return.

Damn! I missed those comments. I’ve been hopping for his return as well.

I don't think we are looking for a backup, I think we are looking for a goalie to play 30-40 games.

I guess we are splitting hairs here, but I see a backup playing under 30 games and the starter playing 50 or more games. If both goalies are playing in and around the 40 game mark then you have a tandem situation and that's what I think the team is looking for.
I don't see the team anointing a starter, I see a situation where they run with either goalie for stretches.
