Until one of these services gives me NHL, I see no reason to switch from Netflix. Anything that's not there is available....elsewhere.

Shomi is now open to all Canadians, not just those who have Shaw or Rogers. I have Shaw for Cable and Rogers for Wireless but never actually bothered with Shomi though. Anyone use it? Chromecast support?

One month free trial is available regardless.

I had it for awhile. I have Shaw too and you access the shows on the cable box just like any other VOD. Browsing is a pain, but if you know what you want to watch it's not a big deal.

There are a few shows on there that aren't available anywhere, even on Netflix, like Battlestar Galactica. And they have Amazon content like Transparent. I still ran out of stuff to watch within a month so I cancelled. I might resubscribe for a month in the fall to catch up on new shows, but it's not worth keeping an account going constantly.

I don't have a Chromecast, but it looks like it should work according to Shaw.

Thanks for bumping this, it reminded me to cancel it. Shomi sucks.

I got Shomi for the free month trial and it sucks. They don't even have full seasons of series. Will be cancelling it for sure.

You guys really don't like 18 seasons of "Just for Laughs Gags" or "Halifax Comedy Festival".

Terrible terrible stuff.

Yup. Just more Canadian crap from a Canadian corporation that desperately tries to ensure you don't send your money elsewhere to a more worthy service like Netflix.

How could Shaw or Rogers not get EVERY dollar from your pocket?

I'll use the free preview to watch some episodes of It's Always Sunny maybe try to get through Transparent but that's it. A shocking lack of content.

More than anything it's frustrating that services like this keep some stuff off Netflix. Always Sunny, The Office, Parks and Rec, all missing and would be amazing on Netflix but now on Shomi crap.

Was watching Always Sunny on American Netflix just the other day.

Yeah, I do that if I'm on my laptop or something but with Chomecast you have to stick with your region.

Can't you just update your home router so that you whole network thinks you are in the US and chromecast wouldn't be able to tell the difference

I suppose I could, how easy is it to switch back and forth? Having my router thinking I'm in the US for anything but Netflix at the end of the day seems counter productive though.

Chromecast uses it's own DNS servers. You need to add static routes to make Google DNS servers unreachable. Not all routers can do this.

That's why I hooked a PC up to our TV. Set the DNS through UnBlockUs and boom. All good for anything we want to watch.

Bumping this because Shomi is finally available on PlayStation 4 today. They say Xbox One support coming soon. Still no word on a Roku app, though.

Also, the 2 month free trial offer (as opposed to 1 month) expires Jan. 31, so it might be good time to give it a try.

Finally available on PS4! giving it a shot on free trial to see how it goes.

If only they gave you the benefit of not accumulating bandwidth if you were a Shaw internet subscriber as well, and not just cable.

I don't have cable or my name on the internet. I have Shomi.

Actually I find Netflix sucks as well. How many times have you searched for a movie and it's not there. About every second one for me. I have a big iTunes movie rental bill to prove it.

Ya except doesn't unblockus mess up your internet encryption? Probably wouldn't do any banking with unblockus.
