Default kids, macbooks and the flu

so, my kid throws up on my computer (luckily it was my old macbook circa 2007... wow... 2007 is old now).

Anyways, he throws up on the machine, and it shuts down due to the amount of liquid on it. I've pulled out the HD (luckily it was dry when I took it out) and tried to dry off inside and outside, it is currently opened up and drying as we speak. But just wanted to check if I am screwed due to the shorting out of the machine?

Just wanted the collective thoughts of CP before I spent a few hours obsessively taking apart, cleaning and putting back together the machine.

I spilled a whole glass of red wine on my work laptop. I quickly dried off what I could then I put it face down on the air conditioning fan overnight and it was fine in the morning.

If the liquids (gross btw) made it through the keyboard layer then this is what I would do. I know it will sound weird but I did this after spilling a lot of beer on a laptop.

Take out the motherboard and run it through the the dishwasher, with the heat turned off. Take out MB and put it in front of a fan for 12 hours to dry. Do the same for the plastic components.

Good as new.

I would look into some online guides about cleaning electronics that have gotten wet.

Here is one from ehow, and it looks ok at first glance.

The more i think about it, the more I am thinking about retiring the computer. i've tried cleaning the keyboard after it's started to dry out... and this is not a pretty situation.

Thanks for all the input, the AC idea is good though... the dishwasher idea surprises me.

If you are going to retire it anyways try the dishwasher thing and let us know how it goes.

so I took it apart, and went through it with a million q-tips and a some warm water. dried it out with a blow dryer, put it back together and it works!

unforetunately I still feel the need to wash my hands everytime I touch it... old macbook... FOREVER UNCLEAN!!!
