Default Deep Purple's Jon Lord passes away

Jon Lord, the classically trained pianist who co-founded British hard rock troupe Deep Purple, has died at the age of 71.

The keyboardist and composer co-wrote some of Deep Purple's best known songs, including Smoke on the Water, Black Night, Strange Kind of Woman and Child in Time.

RIP. He was a rock organ innovator for sure. Great improviser as well.

Highway Star and the organ solo it features are two of the greatest things that came out of 1970's classic rock.

Jon Lord had such a distinctive sound, moreso than Blackmore's guitar. A true hard rock trailblazer. Sad news. I think I'll listen to "Flight of the Rat" now...

the man who made it cool to play the organ in rock and roll. I can't hear a Hammond without thinking of Jon Lord.

Sad. Always loved the organ on Lazy. The intro and riffs with Blackmore are awesome...so meaty.
