Here's what happened when Ryan Adams filmed a collaborative TV show with Neil Finn and Janis Ian in 2011:

Apparently AC Newman and Robbie Fulks really hate him too.

yeah. if there really is hundreds if not thousands of texts to these girls, should be tons of evidence and pretty easy to determine if he was aware they were underage.

In the AC Newman thread, he talks about how Adams once bought a drink for the sole purpose of throwing it in Newman's face. AC was giving him heck for how he was treating a woman in his company.

I kind of want them to open an investigation into Jesse Lacey from Brand New while they're at it. He basically did the same thing. Though his career is basically over now.

Why Are Women Underrepresented in Music? Look to the Ryan Adams Story

https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/why-a..._tvpQtcvRxjkvs

Quote:
The entire history of popular music is paved with tales of abusive and predatory men, from John Lennon and Led Zeppelin to Tupac and Dr. Dre, on and on and on. Sex with underage girls has not only been normalized, it has been celebrated. (Almost Famous and Chuck Berry’s “Sweet Little Sixteen” don’t exactly hold up in the #MeToo era.) This stuff is baked into the DNA of the industry. Ask any female musician if she has experienced anything like what Phoebe Bridgers, Courtney Jaye, or Mandy Moore describe, and she’s likely to have a story of her own to share.

How many lives have been ruined by coercive men and their protectors? How many women stopped working in music because of them? And how much great music did we lose in turn?

“I think sometimes about the size of a library full of the books that weren't written, the movies and shows that weren't made, the music that was never played because of the way marginalized and vulnerable creative people were treated,” Linda Holmes, host of NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour, tweeted in the wake of the Times’ Ryan Adams report. “I mean, there's a good chance you never heard what would have been your favorite band.”

Every time another headline pops up about how women are underrepresented on the charts or in music production or missing from festival lineups, we should think about the countless gatekeepers who, instead of helping women, used their positions for sexual gain at the expense of their targets. This casual abuse of power is the norm in music, a grey area unlikely to be dealt with by a male-dominated industry still just wading into #MeToo. But the Ryan Adams account is a necessary reminder that this is what many women deal with, at one point or another, in pursuit their dreams. The more often these difficult stories are told, the less abusers can hide behind feigned ignorance and weak, deflective apologies.

Based on some of her tweets, it wouldn't surprise me if it was Kathleen Edwards.

Brand New was probably my favourite band of the last 15 years. I haven't been able to listen to them since. The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me, as an album, is one of the best albums I've ever heard.

it's tough to try and separate the people from the art they create.
don't know if you can.
at least for the really old stuff you can sort of rationalize what they did in relation to the time they lived in, but for a current artist it's hard.

Sexual assault charges stayed against Calgary chef Michael Noble after case 'significantly changed'

Quote:
Calgary chef Michael Noble no longer faces a sexual assault trial, after the Crown prosecutor's office stayed the charge against him.

"Mr. Noble has been confident since entering a not-guilty plea on his first court appearance that the court would properly dispose of the accusation against him," reads a statement released by Noble's lawyer, Jennifer Ruttan.

"The Crown decision to stay the prosecution supports his confidence in the criminal justice system."

According to Alberta Justice, the case was reviewed by both a senior prosecutor and the chief Crown prosecutor, who determined Noble was unlikely to be found guilty.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper in the United Kingdom is reporting Scotland Yard, London’s police force, is investigating an allegation of sexual assault made against the former B.C. premier Gordon Campbell.

The newspaper reports there has been a complaint filed against Campbell that he inappropriately touched a member of staff in 2013 while working as the Canadian High Commissioner to Britain.

The incident is alleged to have taken place in a stairwell at Canada House in London, according to the Telegraph.

“This complaint was transparently disclosed and became the subject of a full due diligence investigation at the time by the government of Canada and was found to be without merit,” the spokesperson is quoted as saying.

It said the allegation was reported on Jan. 3, 2019.

In a statement, Global Affairs said it couldn’t comment on specific allegations for privacy reasons.

“The Government of Canada takes any allegations of sexual assault and harassment extremely seriously,” said the statement. “This kind of alleged misconduct in the workplace is absolutely unacceptable.”

They were probably in my top 15, so I agree it was quite disappointing to find out. The lyrics were very dark and painted a picture of a very broken individual, but they ended up ringing a little more true than expected. It's a bit like Louis CK in that way. Kinda figured they were both exaggerating.

Two birds with one stone update in this post:

Neil deGrasse Tyson Will Return to National Geographic After Assault Investigation

Quote:
National Geographic Channel has completed its investigation into “Cosmos” and “StarTalk” host Neil deGrasse Tyson, and will move forward with both shows. The channel didn’t elaborate on its findings, however.

“‘StarTalk’ will return to the air with the remaining 13 episodes in April on National Geographic, and both Fox and National Geographic are committed to finding an air date for ‘Cosmos,'” the network said in a statement. “There will be no further comment.”
James Gunn Returns to Direct ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’

Quote:
After a series of meetings with Walt Disney Pictures honcho Alan Horn, fired director James Gunn will return to the Marvel fold.

Gunn has been re-hired to direct the third installment in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, the Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana series about misfits who protect outer-space, an individual familiar with the project told Variety.

Gunn was fired last July following the resurfacing of offensive tweets that made light of child sex abuse. The director apologized for the sentiments, which were bubbled up by conservative talking head Mike Cernovich, but was swiftly chopped by family-friendly Disney over the graphic and immature nature of his comments.

First of all, I'm hoping that this indicates that we can once again worship at the altar of Tyson? It would be nice if he was just a socially awkward nerd instead of some creep.

Much like the line between genius and madness the line between socially awkward nerd and creepy stalky dude is narrow and often blurry
