Default Dumb Calgary Criminals

Today I found a buyer on Facebook Marketplace for an IPad I wanted to sell. He seemed legit through our conversation and agreed to meet at my house for the sale with cash. When I opened the door I got a bad vibe as he seemed jittery and uncomfortable. I handed a bag which contained all of the empty boxes as i was going to give him those as well. He grabbed the bag and ran off as fast as he could not knowing that they were all empty.

What should I do in this situation? Report to the police?

The suspect is described as a more jittery and lower hockey IQ version of Joe Colborne.

Call the non-emergency line and make a report. There is a good chance this person has done it to others and will do it to others. It could help catch them.

Apple cardboard fetches a premium.

Yeah. Years ago I called the non-emerg line after some door-to-door guy selling furnace cleaning (or something?) tried to physically push his way into my mom's house. They just took a report over the phone with all the details we had, and cause we called so soon as they had a car patrolling right away.

Do people meet up at their home for things like this? Kijiji?

I would have thought meeting some place public nearby would be better. Wouldn't have stopped this particular situation I guess.

I've seen a few people posting this week on facebook about some young guy doing this in the north. Comes to someone's door to look at a phone, specifically apple stuff, and then suddenly bolts with it and hops into a car.

It's not an uncommon or rare occurrence.

So I imagine that the actual encounter was sketchy and a worrisome, but a guy going around stealing empty boxes?

I'm not the only one who thinks this is hilarious right?

This is 'extension cords' all over again but dumber.

I think the point is he didn’t know they were empty and thought he was taking the items.

OP made a savvy move there.
