If you are in Alberta you should not have to wait more than 6-9 months max for Cataract Surgery. In some cases it is 3 months after referral. Nearly every Cataract surgeon in Calgary is serving 90% of patients within 37 weeks according to the Alberta Wait Time website.

Well, that is ####ing bull#### then. I phoned and followed up with them several times after my consultation and they told me I am not a priority patient.
It's been 17 months.

Increased risk of infection and reduced efficacy. If it is a medication then it should definitely not be used pass expiry.

If it is bothering more than before I would visit with your Optometrist again. They can send a follow-up letter that states that it is progressing and that can often bump up the surgery date. You can also request a second opinion and see a different specialist to see if you can get it done quicker.
It could also simply be that it doesn't yet meet the criteria for surgery under Alberta Health Care.
I find communication lacking in a lot of the Ophthalmology clinics. They often do not clearly give you an update of where you are in the process. You go into the office, spend 4 hours doing testing, see the Surgeon for 2 mins and then are handed back to a nurse (who often has varying levels of information to give to the patient).

It’s not a medication but used for dry eyes.

Less of an issue, but still riskier for infection. Best to just get a new one... You have Money in your username.

After my retinal detachment in my right eye in 2021, I was diagnosed by by Optometrist as having an "aggressive" cataract in my right eye in November 2022. I had cataract surgery in my right eye in mid-April, and in my left eye in mid-May.
I hope they bump you up and get you in soon, CroFlames.

Yours would be considered urgent as Aggressive Cataracts are bumped up the Queue.
Most people think it is first come, first serve. It is not. There is a formula they use to determine the location on the waiting list.

Knut what are your thoughts on Kirkland brand daily contact lenses? Are they of the same quality as other brands?

The are just repackaged Cooper-vision MyDay Lenses. If they work for you they are fine.
It is a so-so lens that personally I find only a select few prefer them over other brands.

Uh oh, now they're coming for you, big glasses! I always knew this was a scam, because when I took my glasses or contacts out to sleep, my dreams were always crystal clear!

(I don't think that it needs to be said...but this is probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen)

What's the one thing your doctor tells you you need, but is a total lie? Oxygen. Watch my next video with this neat trick that will prove to you my point, and it only involves 1 airtight plastic bag and a rubber band! Play along and discover the truth!

Oh really? I just stumbled across it today and thought that this was a new take on things. I suppose that I can understand things like vaccines or whatever because the outcomes are a lot more "abstract". But glasses...I mean you can either read things or you can't? There's no grey area!

Are there any good places to shop for goggles / sports glasses? I'm thinking of taking my prescription and doing the online thing.. it just seems most storefronts don't tackle this very much. I can't seem to handle contacts very well

I've been ordering online from FramesDirect for WileyX glasses. My sport ones are great(they have a foam insert for winter sports as well), but I'm even happier I got a pair of shop glasses. So much better than standard eye protection. I don't have a strong or complicated prescription, but I've probably ordered a half dozen from them and they have been great(and priced very well too).

This is one thing we have trouble stocking. You have to order a bunch to get costs down low enough for people, but the market is very niche. That is why it is hard to find in Store-fronts. We would need to order 24 in to even carry it in store.
Shooting places and Ski places can some times have them.
If you have a higher Rx online can be tough to get right. One thing you can do is find the frame you want online and give the information to your local optical to see if they can order it in or put lenses into it. Sometimes we can order one-offs for people.

The one think I liked about the WileyX is the impact resistance. I'm not sure if it is just all marketing, or their lenses are actually better than what standard ones are? Thoughts, Knut?

I will say my wife has a small face and very strong prescription. She tried ordering childrens glasses in sport style, but they just couldn't make them clear across enough of the lens. They did let us send them back for a refund, which was nice.
