West Edmonton Mall - Locked Down (Lockdown Lifting) - 3 Injured in Shooting
https://twitter.com/user/status/1693819452012233092
Quote:
EPS are immediately requesting that all pedestrians and motorists stay away from West Edmonton Mall and the immediate area as police respond to multiple reports of a shooting. There are concerns for public safety and the Mall is currently on lockdown.
|
Hope it de-escalates and we get no casualties from this.

update: The lockdown for west edmonton mall is in the process of being lifted. The area in phase 3 where the shooting occurred will not be accessible as police investigate the incident. We will send out another update once more details are available.

It's odd that none of the stories even talk about what happened to the shooter. From the tone of the stories, it sounds like the person is not longer a threat.
It also sounds like all 3 victims will survive and it is believed the people knew the shooter. Gang related would be my guess, or maybe related to that riot in Edmonton a few days ago.

Was at West End on July and had to run with my family as a 20 person fight broke out amongst some 18-20 year olds. You never know if there's knives or guns so I grabbed my kids and we ran away quick. Getting scary to go anywhere

A fitting typo, "west end"
Although we're having mall shootings of our own lately. Why can't these wanna be thugs settle their scores in back alleys and abandoned parking lots in the middle of the night, away from the public in broad daylight.
It's dumb on so many levels.

Why can't they break out into Broadway dance numbers and solve their problems that way?

Its more peaceful and almost equally efficient.
Granted, learning the choreography is much more difficult.

Usually whenever parts of Edmonton are locked down my mind always goes to de-lousing, not shootings. Hopefully everyone ends up ok after this.

The rumor here (will say rumor but multiple sources, but not publicly confirmed) is that it's spin off from the Eritrean festival riot event that happened over the weekend.
Apparently the dominant thought by rebel associated factions are that these eritrean festivals are a way to funnel foreign funds into pro government factions on the ground and ultimately buy weapons and ammunition to kill rebels.
I have to admit; I don't recall there ever being an eritrean festival before this year in Edmonton. So I would be interested to understand more about the drive behind organizing one and where the funds are going. I don't want community events I may or may not attend to be supporting terror operations in a foreign nation.

I remember Boxing Day, early 90s? I saw a kid get stabbed right in front of me at West Ed. Still traumatized to this day.

I'm confused, which poster are you referring to? If you mean the poster attached to the Change.org petition I am not even sure it was selected by the original poster and not just assigned. The petition was definitely from end of July 2023. And the Eritrean gov linked website promoting the 23 festival is also from this year.
I welcome criticism into this, but I don't think it's racist. There was massive social disorder caused by the protest/counter protest clash within this city between pro government/rebel groups just a few days ago and this event appears directly linked.

The one you linked. The word salad all-bold Change petition seems like boomer ramblings more than anything
