I'm in my 50s and hardly play games at all anymore, but I randomly picked up SMB Wonder this weekend. I'm having a great time with it, to the point that I have repatriated the Switch from the kid's rec room to the upstairs TV.

I also bought the two game voucher deal, so I have another voucher I need to use. Am pondering either the new Zelda or Mario RPG, but are there any other suggestions for good games that I can pick up and play for an hour every so often? Our Switch was hardly being used at all anymore by the kids, but it seems to be suiting me fine.

I barely game at all but when I was quarantined a couple years ago I grabbed my sons switch and got Breath of the Wild. It took me more googling than I'm proud of to beat the game but I had a blast! It consumed that whole two weeks haha - waiting for another personal life black swan event to give Tears of the Kingdom a go.

Stardew Valley is my personal favorite game of all time.

https://www.dekudeals.com/items/stardew-valley

It's an incredible game, perfect for pick-up-and-play sessions but at the same time has limitless play value. And it's cheap.

Oh, here's another easy recommendation, Into the Breach is on sale for $9 right now, ridiculous:

Easily my favorite strategy game of all time. Great for 30-40 minute sessions and will have you obsessing over it, masterclass in game design.

Into the Breach is good.

But it's not SUPER MARIO RPG. Only SUPER MARIO RPG is worth the 25 hours you will put into it. Because three months later you will put the 25 hours in again. And then again. And then again.

I had to cheat in Stardew Valley to give me tons of $$ to make it so I didn't want to play anymore it was so addictive.

But have you tried the mod that adds so much more to the game?

I think the best pick up and play games that are eligible to be bought by vouchers are:

Mario Kart 8
Super Smash Bros.
Super Mario Party
Super Mario Maker

Okay, tell me why I should spend $80 on a pretty easy game I've played through a dozen times? The new refights better be freaking amazing, or I'll just play the randomizer of the SNES game again.

Like, I love the game...but for whatever reason I haven't been interested in the slightest by this remake.

Because it's fun. Can the randomizer of the SNES game play on your Switch?

I agree it's a fun game. I don't think it's $80 fun, even though that's cheaper than what the original game cost at my local Zellers back in 1996. For $100 I can buy the entire FF1-6 Pixel Remaster bundle on Switch and probably get more fun out of it.

I have my PC hooked up via HDMI to my TV so the SMRPG randomizer plays quite nicely on the couch.

Yes but FF 1 - 6 isn't Super Mario RPG. Only Super Mario RPG is Super Mario RPG and thus is the correct kind of fun for having real fun.

Ok, you've convinced me; I'm never playing Super Mario RPG.

I like the Mario RPG remake but it's almost entirely fueled by nostalgia. Granted it was never a very difficult game, but the changes to the battle system have made it trivially easy to where I just feel like I'm almost wasting my time playing it. I like seeing all the updated worlds and characters (and the re-done soundtrack!) but I would stop short of full on recommending it to an adult who had never played the original.
