Disagree. Entertaining always comes before informative when making a documentary.

I couldnt disagree more. What you're saying is that as long as its a good pitch to hell with the integrity of the information.
Haaaaaave you seen 'Aliens on the Moon?' They're drilling for Oil apparently.
That might be the documentary for you.

Nobody actually started watching it expecting impartiality, did they? The bias is right in the title.

I originally thought it was going to be about how the time Avery served transformed him into a murderer.
While I was aware of the controversial trial beforehand, I had no idea the series was focused on that. I never would have known of the extent of the controversy if it had not been for this series.

That's fair. I didn't think of that interpretation. After watching it, I would argue that the creators make no apologies for their bias and in no way tried to hide it.
I'm having almost as much doing additional reading up on this case after the fact.

So I just finished this. One thing that is bothering me, the Sheriff's Dept received a phone call from another department informing them they had an individual in custody who claimed to have committed a crime in Manitowoc County that someone else was being convicted for. Now if that person is telling the truth or not is another story but why in God's name would the defence not hire an investigator to track that person down and speak with them?

^ Avery was well into his prison sentence by that time - i am pretty sure the cops kept it to themselves until he was released from prison and the lawyers started the suit against the cops and county and dug it up

Which is another part of what is so ridiculous.
The same officer that took that phone call and didnt report that information and as such was largely responsible for the hefty lawsuit against the police department was also one of the officers who found crucial evidence in Avery's trailer during the murder investigation despite the fact that he wasnt supposed to be there.
Crazy coincidence huh?

The judge that presided over the post-conviction hearing was also the one that presided over the conviction portion. Is that normal? It seems like a clear conflict right there.

The sentencing? That would be normal.
An appeal would or leave to appeal would require a different judge.

It wasn't sentencing.
It was to go over the motions that were ruled against the defense during the trial. The judge (same judge that presided over the main trial), decided that they were all valid.

From reading the ample Reddit info/musings on this, it seems the most likely culprits are the brother-in-law and Bobby, who use only themselves as alibis, whose timeframes do not match the bus driver's testimony, who both went hunting, and who both were on/around the property. Bobby does his best to help frame Avery with the implausible story on the stand, and the brother-in-law was trying to sell a .22 a few days afterward.
Then the police find the vehicle, move the vehicle, stash a key, plant a bullet, move some bones around, and their guy is sent to jail.
That's my take on it. Who knows? Going to be fascinating following the developments on all of this as the internet's sleuths and vigilantes get going.

Ken Kratz is planning on writing a book to further prove Steven Avery's guilt, defend the justice system and speak for the real victim, Teresa Halbach.
making-a-murderer-da-ken-kratz-is-writing-a-tell-all-book/
It appears he was also trying to get Steven Avery to confess the details of the murder to him so he can have the glory of telling the whole story.
