Top Gun was a success because it was simple escapist fun and offered audiences a legitimate visual spectacle. Rogue squadron would have been a CGI crap-fest (since good CGI artists seem to have blacklisted Disney) and Disney has been batting a real low percentage for their Star Wars and Marvel brands of late.
Disney has been forced to accept they've been applying a losing strategy to Marvel and Star Wars and are massively downsizing. 7,000 employees fired and $5.5B in cuts, $3B of that is cuts to content creation. Is Disney willing to accept that Star Wars and Marvel only really succeed when they try to be escapist fun for teenage boys and that "modern audiences" don't actually care about these brands? Or is Disney so ideologically possessed that they're going down with the ship?
I think I'm at the point where I would be okay if they closed the Star Wars book forever. I feel like the story has been told and not much is coming out that's overly exciting or expanding on anything. I didn't need an Obi-Wan story while he was on Tatooine. I already knew that story. He was in hiding watching over Luke. The End.
The Obi-Wan show sucked. Mandalorian is average at best. Time to close the book and move on to something new.

But Andor was freaking amazing.

Forget bad batch, the new mandalorian episode was fantastic!
sweet.... can't wait until i watch them tonight!!! i LOVE star wars wednesdays!
on a side note - my kids also love star wars wednesdays. it has nothing to do with star wars (i watch it after they go to bed) and everything to do with the popcorn! ha! ha!

Bo Katan having a bigger role adds a lot to the show
It's cool to see the difference in them weilding the darksaber. Mando is full of doubt with his unforgiven "transgression" and struggles to swing it, while Bo is sure of herself and it's like a feather
While the costume design has been suspect (pirate king and now the subterranean creatures), that episode definitely rejuvenated my investment
With three episodes left this season of the Bad Batch, this episode makes me feel like something entirely tragic is going to happen.
Spoiler!
The Batch gets a threatening message from Cid as they've cut ties with her.
They go to Puba a beautiful sanctuary island taken there by Phee. (the treasure hunter. A paradise with all the food they can eat. Tech gets googly eyed with Phee. Hunter is at peace. Omega gets a friend her own age.
A place of refuge for people who fled the Clone Wars and the Empire.
Omega finally gets to be a kid.
Even with the natural disaster that happens where the Batch help save everyone from a flood at the end there's no tragedy and Hunter asks for permission for the team to stay and help rebuild.
With three episodes left we now know that something bad is going to happen. Cid is vindictive her message indicated that. Crosshairs is hunting Omega for the Empire for her genetic material.
I've always said when someone falls in love near the end of the season they're going to die. So is Tech going to fall? Hunter isn't likely too and Omega isn't likely too though she is wanted alive. Wrecker is too good of a character.
We know in Rebels that Rex isn't associate with the Batch and they're nowhere to be seen.
We know there is likely another season of the batch, but while they've established the Empire as brutal and corrupt, they really haven't driven it home yet.
Its prophetic, In the episode just before the first tremor that leads to the tsunami, Hunter looks at the monkey's fleeing and says softly "something's coming".
I liked this episode a lot, it was using the same formula for example as Buffy the Vampire Slayer where they would have these light almost comedy episodes just before the Big Bad of the season makes their big final move.
Its coming.

I really liked his works. Especially the Coruscant Knight series. In that series he took the Star Wars universe and created a new side universe within it. Different characters during the same time frames and referencing events of the galaxy at that time but he made something fresh and enjoyable. I felt like he fell flat with the follow up to that in The Last Jedi but I wonder how much of that was his co-author too.
I am unfamiliar with how reliable 'Fandom Wire' is as a source, but Kathleen Kennedy must have been feeling some heat for a while now.
Quote:
It looks like the only Christmas miracle that’s going to save Kathleen Kennedy is a new Star Wars film.
According to sources, Disney has allegedly hurled an ultimatum at the Lucasfilm president, demanding a new Star Wars movie from her in two years’ time. What’s more, the studio apparently wants a finished product, with all the tedious processes of production and filming wrapped up just in time for the movie to be out in cinemas by Christmas 2025.
The rumor further states that in case Kennedy isn’t able to hand over a completed project by the given timeline, she’d be outstripped of her title as the president of Lucasfilm. And if said rumors hold any veracity whatsoever, then the producer’s clock is ticking.
At the same time though...before I'd really comment I'd need to really know what Kennedy's goals are.
I thought the new Trilogy was awful. Not 'Prequels Awful' but not far off.
However....they made bank. Lots and lots of it.
Kennedy isnt the Director of these shows or anything, my understanding is that her job is to make money. She appears to have done that.
Now...could one make the case that if her new Trilogy hadnt sucked out loud that she potentially could have made even more money? I think you could say that fairly, but its still conjecture.
