I'm so excited to see Mario, more so than any movie in a long time.
I should really go back and play Mario Galaxy(s). I can't remember why exactly--probably boils down to being busy-- but I only played the first game for maybe 30 minutes before bailing, I still have the second one wrapped up in cellophane. They're the only Mario games I haven't played.
Chris Pratt is still terrible but ya, I’m gonna need to see that. Looks great. So Many Easter eggs. And rainbow road? Shut up and take my money.
IMO Chris Pratt is being #### on way too much for this. I think with the initial news of the casting the fear was they were simply throwing big names into a soulless cash grab, but after watching the new trailer I really don't see that. Everyone jumped on the anti-Pratt bandwagon after the first teaser with him speaking all of one line, and in the new trailer we only hear him a few more times (the laugh and the "wahoo" at the end were spot on though). I'll wait until the final product before judgement

I never owned a Nintendo console between the SNES and Switch so I only got to try the Galaxy games a few years ago when I setup Dolphin on my PC, and then I finally understood the hype. For me those games are tied with Super Mario World for best all-time in the franchise. FYI they play and look incredible through Dolphin (thanks to 1080p/4K upscaling), and you really don't need that powerful of a PC. They also play better than the Wii control wise IMO, since you can map the motion controls to simple button presses on an Xbox controller

I played Galaxy on the 3D collection a couple years ago and it hasn’t aged that well. I LOVED it in 2007 but it felt more like theme park Mario. Mario has a very small move set, his smallest of any 3D game, and he doesn’t control particularly smoothly. Levels are very linear, everything is very small and, you’re always fighting with a forced perspective camera telling you where to go. Many challenges built around motion controls that were novel at the time, not so much now.
Soundtrack is still legendary though, forever a 10/10.
Odyssey is the best 3D Mario and it’s not even really close, IMO.
Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild thriller finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow... and blood.

I get that this is a stupid / funny movie but the garbage tier CGI bear really kills it.

Still mad that while it's ok for Tom Holland to do an American accent to play Spider-Man it's not for Pratt to do even just a normal Italian one.
But that trailer is amazing, will go for sure.
And yeah Mario Odyssey is amazing, and might be better a better game than Galaxy (I hadn't really thought about comparing them), but Galaxy stands higher in how good it was at the time. Odyssey builds on it so a bit unfair to compare them.

No one has been able to do CGI animals as well as the Planet of the Apes movies. I guess it's a little tougher to motion capture someone pretending to be a bear.

I've done a lot of inner debating between Galaxy and Odyssey, and I still give the edge to Galaxy. I prefer the smaller levels that you only revisit a few times vs the large expansive ones that you spend hours collecting all the moons on. Also your home base in Galaxy is infinitely cooler than a flying hat, and it comes with Rosalina
