Not disagreeing about Mac Jones as I could see him never turning into anything too, but it's wild how much opinions swing year to year. He's played 2 years, his first one he's a Pro Bowler and everyone thinks he's a stud. Then year 2 he regressed and everyone thinks he's a bum. It's a wild ride..

Pro Bowl stats are tough to go off of. So many players opted out, so he gets in. Trubisky made a Pro Bowl the same way.

I don't think he is great either but he fits into the Shannahan system. When it seems that Shannahan wanted Cousins as his QB, Jones fits into that mold for sure.
The reality is they shouldn't have traded up for anyone, probably not even drafted a QB but given the options Jones (who Shannhan wanted) would have been a much better fit than Lance (who the front office wanted) even if that is a low bar to clear.

If this cycle has taught the 49ers anything, and Shanahan's career in general, is they should never be paying more than bottom 5-10 starters money for a QB, and should be trying to recycling QBs on the poverty rookie deal as their starter. They should have won a Super Bowl with Jimmy, should have made another with him, and could have made another last year with Purdy if he doesn't get hurt in the NFC Championship. The elite roster + mid-level QB formula works under Shanahan, but once you gotta pay $50 million+ for your QB the formula becomes much more difficult to work.
And not to give the Cowboys credit, but I like the trade for them. Dak is Dak and his contract situation means he's gone if he doesn't deliver this year, so even though Lance is still a project at this point he at least offers a potential successor.

The braintrust really botched this whole thing.
Quote:
When the 49ers drafted Lance in 2021, they hoped he could become similar to Prescott — someone who could gouge defenses with both his arm and his legs. It turned out that Lance wasn’t quite the runner they expected. He never ran a 40-yard dash ahead of the Scouting Combine, and he ended up being a little slower than expected.
The fact that Lance went against teams like Illinois State and James Madison may have made it seem as if he was a more effective runner than what he turned out to be against NFL competition.

The 49ers biggest problem is Shanahan. He's a coward of a coach.

Drunk at Trolley for a birthday party and they're showing the Saints vs Texans preseason game. Watching Jimmy Graham catch that TD just made my day

Cardinals fully committed to going 0-17 after they cut Colt McCoy to roll with Josh Dobbs and some rookie. Respect the hustle, although it's gonna be hilarious when Caleb Williams announces he's returning to USC to avoid the Cardinals.

They can win it because there are no good teams in the division.
As a Lions fan our team is massively overrated, they got by on a lot of luck and a buttery soft schedule last season. The coaching is terrible and Goof is an awful QB that will be found out when he has to face a non-4th place schedule.
Cousins is Cousins so will limit the Vikings ceiling and that defense looks very questionable.
If the Packers do win it I don't think it will be because they are some great team but more likely they were the best of a very mediocre group.

Last 3 years 7 of the teams who made the playoffs were not in them the previous year.
So out of this group it's likely 5 to 7 don't get in.
Kansas City
Cincinnati
Buffalo
Jacksonville
Los Angeles Chargers
Baltimore
Miami
Philadelphia
San Francisco
Minnesota
Tampa Bay
Dallas
New York Giants
Seattle
The NFC being a bit weaker is where I'll look for the most change.
I'll take Minnesota, Seattle, New York, Tampa out and put in Green Bay, Detroit, Los Angeles Rams, and Neew Orleans.
The AFC I have a tougher time figuring out where the changes will be. So these are made on hunches. Because I do this every year.
Kansas City, Miami, Cincinnati out....Pittsburgh, New York Jets, and Tennessee get in.
No Chris Jones is going to hurt the Chiefs and I fear it will be too late when he gets

They have had some talent on defence but awful coaching and Kevin King cost them.
If Dillon can bounce back they might have a shot.

Syl has the Chiefs missing the playoffs, and somehow has the Titans making it? Well good to know my Chiefs SB prop bet is guaranteed to cash, thanks Syl!
