"As seen on TV"
So I often see all thes infomercials and often wonder if the product actually works. I search the web for reviews but just can't bring myself to believe that the review is actually a quality review.
That being said, I thought I would start a thread where hopefully people could post a product they've always thought about purchasing but were skeptical. Maybe someone else has the product and can offer up a review of it.
First one...The No-No

if they can't even spend the money to think of a name for their product that isn't stupid, then i wouldn't bet on it being quality

I got a slap chop for a gift and only used it once or twice. Somehow just seems easier to use a knife and a cutting board to cut onions.
My kid has one of those blankets you can wear which she uses quite often.
Got the board that cats are supposed to use to scratch, had 2 cats, neither one ever used it.
Used a Shamwow a couple of times, seems to work OK.

I had a slap chop given to me as a gift. It was absolute garbage. A pain to use and it does a lousy job cutting. It makes for more work in the kitchen. You can't even slit your wrists with it after getting frustrated.
Shamwows are ok, but you can by no-name versions that are exactly the same for a lot cheaper.
Magic sand is frickin' awesome though. I used to play with that stuff a lot when I was a kid. I haven't seen an infomercial about that stuff in years though.

I'll put my recommendation in for Insanity
I was skeptical at first, but what helped convince me was the fact that you don't need any equipment. Just some open space and a dvd player. I haven't really followed the food/nutrition guide as it's a little too hardcore for me. I've done the 60 day workout a couple of times and now for maintenance rotate through 3 of the longer/more difficult second month workouts on a weekly basis.
Overall it's helped me lose a bunch of weight and overall I'm more fit than I've probably ever been.
Jeeze, they should be paying me for this. If you're looking to get in better shape and are willing to commit the time (~40 mins/day, 6 days a week for the first month and ~60 mins/6 days for the second) I find it to be well worth the money. Got mine from Amazon.

While I have no doubt it works, I could prepare a program if your willing to put in 40 minutes a day, 6 days a week that would give similar results.
I think you are really paying for a motivator with these things vs the actual work out.

I picked up one of the Ikea "slap chops". Pretty dismal. I should have known better.
From a couple of home / garden type shows:
We have in the past though, purchased a mandolin and potato peeler that were razor sharp. They work well, but the plastic has a cheap, brittle feel to it. It's also terrifying to clean. I think a professional grade mandolin would have been a better choice.
Also, these work really well for storing long extension cords and keeping them organized.

Back to that no no though, it shows that girl burning or whatever her boyfriends chest hair. How many guys here get rid of the hair on the chests, I know I'd never do it.

The no-no is supposedly awful. It is just a razor that burns off hair. The only products that will actuallly help with permanent hair removal are at home laser kits, like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Silkn-SensEpil/dp/B003E6GW2C
Edit: And no I do not use these products on my chest. I have used my girlfriends product on the back of my neck.

Not really. You unwind the amount of length you need. You dont have to open it up though. The case is flexible and has a gap that you pass the cord through. Imagine a yo-yo almost.

The X-Hose is something that if it really worked, it would make yard maintenance so much easier. standard hoses are big, heavy, tangled rats nests and coiled hoses seem to kill water pressure because of the extra distance around the loops.
alas, half the Amazon reviews say that it will likely leak/explode within the first week. so for now I will play the part of the frustrated black and white character at the beginning of the ad.

My buddy had the x hose and loved it. But then his dog attacked it within the first week and it is now useless.
