So he's saying Giordano and hamonic are over valued? Seems like a stupid statement to make about tge norris trophy winner.

I put the avs series as much on the playoff rookie coach, as i do the flames top line/players.

I do agree flames need another high end player to round out their top 6. Backlund and frolik just don't cut it.

There’s no benefit to spending money today when our team is in the cap and roster situation our team is in.

We’ll get value signings by waiting things out and better return on trades by waiting on teams to miss out on their UFA targets.

Teams that might be in on Frolik, Brodie and Stone will be more apt to commit to a deal when they have UFAs and RFAs settled and know where their cap lies.

If we had a ton of cap to throw around I’d be wanting them to get their hands in the pot.

The older dman comment really had me thinking.

For the 2020-2021 season, could we potentially see a Top 6 of:

Hanifin-Andersson
Valimaki-Hamonic
Kylington-???

First, trade Brodie and Jankowski for Kadri. If all of the kids take a giant step next season, maybe the Flames can trade Giordano and Backlund separately for substantial packages (prospects and picks). Some of the picks can be used to move Neal if he doesn't turn it around. Then, sign Taylor Hall..

Yeah. ####ing shame he carried on the torch for Brouwer right as we got out of that contract. He was supposed to be our Kessel lite and feast on the opportunity to tower over the RW depth and score 25 with ease here.

But yes, more importantly than that, a bonafide 2C to go with Mony, Backs and Ryan is the center depth you need to compete.

I don’t like him in general but he made a comment about us being the biggest loser today because we didn’t sign a good enough goalie today, which I disagree with and it prompted me to make that post.

I think his reasoning was not just the goaltending. He did mention we didn’t address the Centre depth today. I agree we need to add someone, but I believe that would be more through a trade route, as opposed to a free agency signing.

I don’t think his criticisms were necessarily wrong but to suggest we could have/should have addressed that through free agency when we already have limited cap space with three big RFA’s to sign is asinine. We have all summer to make trades.

Again, I don’t like Ray so I’m biased but that comment ticked me off.

Yeah thats a shortsighted comment.

Given the market and the flames cap situation, getting Talbot is a very savvy move. Rittich might even be ready soon so it might not matter at all. You just needed a younger goalie with upside at a reasonable price to push BSD and that's exactly Talbot. They'd have to spend more than they could to get Lehner, so by that logic they couldn't "win" anyway.

Don't know why these analysts constantly think the flames need to sign a big name savior to fix their goaltending. They have a guy emerging as we speak, who was good enough to support a first place season. It's not as dire as these guys seem to think.

He said overvalued and he was talking about within the organization. He’s really high on Valimaki and Andersson and he believes they can take over for the veteran defenseman. He never said they were overrated, rather the Flames are underestimating their younger guys.

So assuming no major shakeups, I think the plan might to be to buyout Stone after someone files for arbitration.

Forwards:
Gaudreau, Monahan, Neal, Backlund, Lindholm, Frolik, Ryan, Jankowski, Czarnik, Dube, Quine (or ELC Contract)

Defense:
Giordano, Hanifin, Brodie, Hamonic, Valimaki, Andersson, Kylington

Goalies:
Talbot

That would leave the Flames with 12.5M to sign Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Bennett and Rittich:
7M to Tkachuk (for as long as you can get)
1M to Mangiapane
2.5M to Bennett
2M to Rittich (one year show me contract where he battles Talbot)

23 man roster with pretty much no breathing room and an optimistic cap-hit or unfavourable term for Tkachuk. So might still take a Frolik trade etc.

He didn’t say anything specifically, but I think that was not a shot on Giordano, but more so talking about Brodie and Hamonic. It was more about the younger guys taking on more responsibilities and moving into a Top 4 role.
