Hell, don't spend the space on anyone right now and add 2 major pieces at the deadline with your 12 million in accrued space.

Well cap space is what lead to Neal in the first place...
But I don't think the window needs to be that short. Valimaki had a big impact on Flames this year.
If you think the contending window could stay open for 4 or 5 years it certainly changes the perspective. That is the crux of it I guess.

Happy it’s the east though!

Agreed. Love the player but not someone worth getting into a bidding war over.

I know it's early, but I can't help but be disappointed that the flames haven't really made a mark as far as improving the roster at all as yet.
So far, hello talbot, goodbye smith & Hathaway...
I am also nervous to see that the draft and July 1st have passed, but Brodie, Frolik, and stone are still here.
Hoping treliving has deals in the works for teams that strike out in free agency...

Losing one of the gritty players this team had also doesn't help. Getting softer by the day.

I know it's just Eklund, so lol whatever, but Kreider would be a good add
Stacked LW though, something has to give. Does Calgary have many guys that can move to the off wing?

Dorion trying to prove that the dumpster fire that he is managing still appeals to NHL players. Pretty embarrassing.

Tkachuk plays the RW sometimes, and tends to drift to the right naturally mid-shift.

Interesting, thanks. I think Bennett played some games on the RW as well, if I'm not misremembering. How effective it was I couldn't tell
Kreider - Backlund - Tkachuk wouldn't be a bad line at all

Just as I was expecting, nothing really happening for us today... I can't even blame Treliving for it much. This is now a sad reality, but Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Buffalo, Minnesota and Ohio are just not the desired destinations for top-rated free agents. Somehow, teams in desired cities always find the cap space and the dough to make the big-name good quality signings, each season. Evidently, players take sizeable discounts to play where they and their wives want to live. We pick up the leftovers. Our scouting and development process must improve dramatically to have any chance of success in becoming a cup contender team.

Or it's because we don't have any cap space to spend really.
We need to make a trade or 2 even just to sign our free agents. Adding anyone else is going to be tough.

With the Flames' cap situation being what it is, it makes sense that this summer most changes will come via trade.
And frankly I'm happy with that vs the usual dumping 4-6 mil on bottom 6 wingers

I am mildly disappointed but not really surprised. Last year the way the season ended it was clear as day the Flames were going to make sweeping changes starting immediately. Peters was brought in and it was obvious Hamilton was being moved. There were no where near the contract issues internally so they had flexibility to sign Ryan and Neal.
This summer they are coming off an unreal season but disappointing playoff. They have their potential future captain, starting goalie and hard nosed winger to re-sign with limited cap space. The need to do a huge shakeup is not necessary and more challenging to do with these unknown contracts.
Personally I wish the Flames got all their business done by end of day today so we can enjoy the summer but Tree was eluding to the fact he could see stuff moving later in to the summer this year which sucks but is what it is
