If the Flames can dump Frolik and Stone (maybe buyout for him?) then sign Ferland for 3-3.5M for 2-4 years and trade Brodie for Kadri I would be happy with those moves.

this is the one I'm hoping for, as well... if not, maybe Pominville or Williams on a cheap, 1-yr deal

Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Kadri-Czarnik
Bennett-Backlund-Lindholm
Mangiapane-Ryan-Jankowski

damn, that'd be too good and too deep to be true.

Frolik and Neal can't just be poofed away though.

Bradley needs to fetch a winger and a good one with Hathaway on his way out. That line was important to their success in the second half.

Or do Brodie for Kadri already.

Phil Kessel was Pittsburgh's best RW.

Spreading talent throughout the lines is a good way to go.

It's hilarious you slot 78 point Lindholm down to the 3rd line. That's the 2nd or 3rd time youve done that in your mock line ups. Makes no sense. How in the 9 blue hell's does Czarnik of all people slot high than him. And then right off the top line replace by Ferland who NEVER and will likely ever succeed the way Lindholm has.

The Ferland stupidity is just that. Stupid.

Balanced lines? Multiple threats throughout the lineup?

Holy over-reaction. Bennett-Backlund-Lindholm would be an awesome line.

People get too hung up over slotting. Crosby plays with filler on his line every year. Doesn’t mean they’re the best wingers on the team or that the Crosby line is somehow not #1. Sometimes successful teams balance their lineup.

What is with all the Ferland love? He's not a top line player at all and is incredibly streaky and injury prone.

My issue with the lineup is Czarnik in the top 6. He is a replacement level player at least out Neal there who has a history of top 6 production

Arthur Staple @StapeAthletic
Sounds like Anders Lee is nearing a deal... Wouldn't surprise me if he's back wearing the 'C' for the #Isles, but we shall see shortly

In this instance its blatantly misguided. There's no way that Ferland and Czarnik provide better production balance than having what was it, the 2nd or 3rd best line in hockey broken up, just because.

Using pittsburgh is equally misguided. Wheres our Malkin?

There's no scenario where the Flames find better success without that top line production unless there's a better or equal player than Lindholm coming in to help with that. Czarnik or Ferland or even Neal are not that. By a lengthy margin.

Somehow the Flames need to get a 2nd line offensive centre.
Hopefully that can happen if they are able to move out a veteran defenceman.

Right, balancing sometimes means lowering the production of one line as a whole, while raising the production of another.

It’s not just because. You don’t need a player equal to Lindholm to create balance. That’s increasing the overall production by a lot, which would be ideal, but unfeasible. Seeing if balance can increase it a little bit, or spread out the scoring, is the obvious goal.

Ken Holland is on TSN. I think the Oilers bought these microphones at Dollar Tree.

2C or 2RW. That's how they're gonna take another step forward. Offense dried up when line 1 wasn't clicking and Tkachuk can't elevate two streak middle six defence first guys on his own. Need to get him some help and we've needed that move for a year now.

Sure but you can’t play Monahan with filler like you can with Crosby

It's also about a style/role balance.

A Bennett-Backlund-Czarnik/Neal line would not be able to shut anyone down. So instead you have to ask Tkachuk-Kadri to take on tough matchups. Yes, they can do it, but the goal was to get Tkachuk away from checking the MacKinnons and such so that he can score on the Josts and such.

A Tkachuk - Kadri - Neal line would be overwhelmingly slowfooted on the wings. Czarnik's skillset is perfectly complementary to Tkachuk and we saw that last year when they played together, but Czarnik couldn't handle the tough checking duties assigned to the Backlund line.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland was statistically not much worse than Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm at five on five. The numbers bear this out:

GMF
53.15% CF
59.19% GF

GML
54.05% CF
59.39% GF

If that's the "dropoff" for making another line much stronger... it's common sense.
