I think the Flames would have a hell of a lot easier time re-signing these two if they had at least gotten started on building a new facility. No guarantees but it sure wouldn't hurt.

But, as always this franchise never makes it easy on themselves.

the Gaudreau's will be in Calgary at Easter. Perfect time to announce a new 8 x $10M contract around the whole family

Man it would be pretty cool if both Gaudreau and Tkachuk re-signed. I think it’s just so improbable though.

I think the later this goes the worse our chances of signing him. He’s upping his value.

These are the best two forwards we've had since Iginla. Treliving has to get this guys locked up, and build around them.

I honestly think this team is one more top 6 forward from being a legit contender. Most of our guys are young, so having Chucky and Johnny locked up would allow us to contend for a while.

I don't think either of these guys, particularly Gaudreau, would run their contract down this close to the end if they hadn't already decided to leave. Either one of them could get a career-ending injury at any time, and the Flames certainly aren't going to give them an extra cent once their contracts are off the books just because they're injured.

We should be actively engaging with Gaudreau's agent to find out where he would like to be traded and what we can get back in return.

But we've seen this before by other star players. I mean, the most recent example would be Landeskog. He tested the market, ended up signing longterm in Colorado.

I am concerned also, but I don't think it's a forgone conclusion that Johnny has his mind made up on leaving. Also, who knows what a deep run could do in his decision making process?

I remember what a deep run did to Craig Conroy’s decision making process in 2004. Guy lived living in Calgary but couldn’t sign with LA fast enough.

Flames had already made a deal to replace him with Langkow and also we’re not willing to pay him what LA offered.

In interviews, Conroy said he was told by the Flames management that he wasn’t going be offered a long term deal and that is why he went to LA on a four year deal. He said his preference would have been to stay here on a multi year deal.

If Edwards wants them resigned there’s more than one way to skin a cat. CNR could probably pay a pretty penny for their advertising services.

Yeah, was going to say, there are plenty of owners with more natural marketing opportunities and they haven’t done it. Because it’s a cap violation and they’d be caught easily.
