I doubt the Flames make any trades unless it’s a huge win for Treliving

I feel like people are thinking this through. You don’t take huge risks at the top of the league, because you already have a great shot at the cup and that’s all anyone can ask for. The risk is that you hurt your shot at the cup, and if the risk is huge? You don’t take it, simple as that.

This is not a bubble team. People have to stop seeing them that way.
Yup. It's the difference between playing fantasy hockey and real hockey.
How many times has this team made moves that looked great on paper and didn't manifest itself into better performance
- Bringing in Jokinen
- Assembling the so-called best D in the NHL (on more than one occasion)
- Trading Okotoker for Brad Stuart

This team, in its current iteration, is performing at an elite level.
What is required is some depth as we know that a long playoff run will require extra bodies.
But I wouldn't be doing anything to tinker with the core elements that have delivered such impressive success

The only way you'd ever think about replacing Lindholm on the top line is with someone like Lindholm - whose defensive responsibility, playmaking, right-handed shot, faceoffs make the other two more effective. Then again, if you're getting a Lindholm type player, might as well put that person on the 2nd or 3rd line for the same reasons, rather than break up that chemistry.

I predict that any deal Tre makes, whether big or small, will be something totally out of left field that none of us have talked about.

I guess I want the Flames to add to their center depth because center is such an important position. I think Monahan, Backlund, Jankowski, Ryan is good, but I think Monahan, Lindholm, Backlund, Jankowski is better.

I suppose there might be a better way to improve the center depth (get a center), but I think centers may be more expensive than wingers. For example, I'm imagining that Kevin Hayes would cost more than Mats Zuccarello.

We could use another top 9 forward.

Mangiapane isn't a full-time NHLer yet.

Still think a guy like Marcus Johansson is a sneaky good addition. He's just like Viktor Rask just a bit older. Fills the hole that Mangipane, Dube and Czarnik cannot seem to fill properly.

Then go after Anton Forsberg.

Really that's about all the tweaking you need to do and it addresses the Hole Smith will leave in the off season.

No major tweaking here.

Anton Forsberg is a great call for a third/insurance goalie in the A... you wouldn't think he would cost more than a mid to late rounder after being on waivers earlier, Hawks love Delia and Lankinen looks OK. I wonder if they trade for him if he could slide over to Stockton without passing through waivers.

At forward, I'd like to see at minimum, two playoff battle tested wingers.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Neal
_____ - Ryan - _____
Hathaway/Czarnik

On D, I'd like to see at least one playoff hardened guy to supplement the kids.

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
_____ - Andersson
Stone

You never know what'll happen in the playoffs, five forwards or five defenseman could go down, forcing our young depth to play instrumental roles on our road to the Cup, namely, Mangiapane, Dubé, Phillips, Välimäki, and Kylington.

Not having Hathaway in the line-up for the playoffs seems like a mistake. You want his toughness. Though I wouldn't mind Frolik being bumped down to the 4th line and the Flames adding a 2nd line RWer, but even then I would be perfectly fine if the Flames made no moves going into the playoffs.

Acquiring Eric Staal reminds me of Winnipeg acquiring Paul Stastny last year.

It'd make sense and could really, really work.

He is signed 2 more years beyond this one, may make sense if he was expiring, but not with money carrying over when the team needs to sign RFAs

As it is shaping up, the Wild could be a first round opponent. If they fade, I expect teams will push for a guy like Staal, and it will depend who is on his 10 team no trade/if he waives it outright. That one would probably wait until right at the deadline.

Would be a great add though, but maybe the price would be a touch high

Eric Staal would only be good if the cost is 2nd+med prospect. 1st in play for someone like schenn that has another season still.

Well, Cam Talbot is definitely available (probably for nothing). I'm NOT saying the Flames should acquire him. I just thought I'd state the obvious because this is the trade speculation and rumors thread. I also know its been stated previously, but this pretty much confirms it.

Wonder if the Oilers would consider Smith + 3rd for Talbot. I don't think this move would change team chemistry and there's hardly any risk in this. Plus, Gully could put in a good word for Smith
