If you think you are a million dollar player, then perform that way so you don’t need to be concerned about being sent down thus making the two-way irrelevant

"This was dumb, lets play."

I'm glad he's back, and I hope he lights it up. Hopefully next summer he's signing a multi year, mutli million dollar contract because he potted 25+ goals and 50ish points in a break out season.

You know that's exactly the same thing that Mangiapane's agent would have been saying in favour of a one-way contract though. If there's little to no chance of him ending up in the AHL, the Flames have no reason not to give him a one-way. But they felt differently and that should be concerning to Mangiapane's side of the negotiation.
I don't blame the guy for fighting over a potential huge difference (a factor of 10x last year) between playing in the AHL vs the NHL. Even fighting for a higher AHL salary guarantees him a higher minimum and doesn't leave him in limbo of having to decide if he's making 700,000 this year or 70,000. A signing bonus, a higher AHL salary, a minimum guarantee clause, all of those would be significant improvements to the QO and would be the difference for Mangiapane to make a big purchase, like say a house, knowing he can afford it even if he does make his way to the AHL.

Guessing Treliving stood firm on his qualifying offer, agent tells Eat Bread to hold off signing to the last minute to see if he can squeeze some more out of the offer. Tre calls their bluff and waits them out, and Eat Bread gives up and signs the deal. I don't think there's any hard feelings, but for sure Mangiapange isn't giving any type of discount the next time around.

It does mean something to Trelving though
AMs situation may not be impacted by a 2-way, but any contract Brad signs could stand to be used as leverage in another negotiation.
Every win matters

I don't think there's anything to suggest that outside of the NHL salary but he could still have negotiated a much higher AHL salary, signing bonus etc. while still being a 715k, two-way contract as reported.

According to this site, which I'm not too familiar with, his minor league salary is 70K
https://puckpedia.com/player/andrew-mangiapane
Has anyone confirmed his waiver eligibility?

He was the first and only one to look at the AM situation and see the complex situation for what it was
He's the hockey mind we never knew we wanted.

lol..Francis a few days ago referenced an agent who said "the garbage dump is closed" when referring to teams offloading contracts for cap relief. Now on 960 Rich Winter has said garbage dump 3 or 4 times. Easy to see where Francis got that info.

It's one of those things that aren't white or black.
Did Mangiapane deserve more than his QO? Quite likely, and the comparables are solid suggesting he's a better player than most if not all of the listed players that will get more.
But in a world where you need to use leverage when you have it, and teams only carry 22 players to accrue cap space you don't over pay for anyone.

Having it a one-way is not bad for the Flames. They have Gillies as a one-way and he has very little chance to play significant NHL games.... bad contract?
Mangiapane played all 5 playoff games.
They won't be able to send him to the minors after he plays 6 more NHL games anyhow. Probably 1 game if the playoff games count.
Tampa would claim him on waivers
Winters only has a few NHL clients:
Mark Giordano, Tomas Tatar, Marian Hossa, Adam Erne, Tomas Jurco, Andrew Mangiapane, Eric Comrie, Calvin Pickard and Sergei Shumakov

He said as much last week when he announced Winter would be on this morning.
Its no secret that Francis talks to agents all the time.
Good source of info actually, but its up to the reader/listener to disseminate what's factual and what is spin and what is complete crap.
