I believe that being under an NHL contract though, that if he did defect, we would hold his rights in perpetuity, unless we traded them of course.

I assume that when an NHL team loans a player on a 2-way contract, that the NHL team pays their AHL salary and not their NHL salary. Anyone know if that is the case?

I don’t think this is any different than Valimaki being loaned out. Once they AHL resumes he will come back.

Do AHL players earn a salary if the league is not playing games?

Zagidulin is 25 and didn't exactly have a great year in Stockton last season. I doubt he ever returns and I wouldn't blame the Flames from moving on. I would go with Parsons and Domingue in the AHL this season. We need to see if Parsons can turn he career around and Domingue needs to play some games in case Markstrom or Rittich is hurt. The following season you need to make room for Wolf. If Parson plays well enough this season, he will still probably need to start in the AHL the following season. This also doesn't factor in Chechelev that could be ready to come over in a year or two.

It's a good move to get Zags some reps before the AHL opens up again.

It was his first year in NA. All reports indicate he actually did well and got better as the season went on.

There are no guarantees Rittich returns after next season so having a guy like Zagidulin who could potentially step in as the backup is good.

He and Parsons can battle for the starting job next season, in the AHL, and Domingue can be the veteran mentor.

I believe he will be back. The only locked down spot within the organization in net is Markstrom. There is still plenty of incentive to come back to try and win the backup job in the next year or two and see how things go from there.

Only his first game, but it looks like he gave up 5 goals in 37 minutes and on 26 shots. Yikes! Hopefully just a little rusty and had a rough start.

I believe 4 of the 5 goals were on the pp, so got hung out to dry a little bit.
