If this is the last Grand Slam of David Ferrer's career then hats off to a hell of a career. Finished world #3 in 2013 behind only Nadal & Djoker as well as won 3 Davis Cups, a ATP 1000 tournament and reached a Grand Slam final. Was a very good clay court player and if he didn't have to play in the big 3 era he would have a slam.

Felix has been previously diagnosed with tachycardia. If I recall there was some talk at the time of his diagnosis that he might ultimately be forced to retire from the sport because of it. So sadly this is going to be an ongoing issue throughout his career, and I suspect he'll never do well at the US Open because the humidity can cause oppressive conditions, which can't be good for the heart.

I would imagine the Aussie Open would similarly be problematic then.

Obviously, the number one concern has to be Felix's health going forward. What a shame it would be if this condition puts a halt to a promising career before it really gets started.

Geez, I never knew that PoLLansky survived a fall through a three story hotel window...
Peter Polansky remembers only random details from the nightmare that once defined him, mainly the mirage of an intruder inside his hotel room, brandishing a knife. He does not remember running toward the window, but he can recall kicking through the glass, the shards slicing through his legs before he landed in the courtyard three stories below.
The accident took place in April 2006 in Mexico City, where he almost sleepwalked out of professional tennis. On Monday, three years later, he played in the first round of the United States Open, losing to Guillermo García López, 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 6-1, a continuation of his remarkable recovery. It was Polansky’s third five-set loss in a Grand Slam tournament this year.
“When it happened, people were doubting if he would play again, or even walk again,” said Dean Coburn, Polansky’s coach. “It was a serious accident, life-threatening. Where he’s come, it’s unbelievable.”

Actually, Melbourne is quite arid and dry in the summer compared to events in places like Brisbane, Sydney, Miami, NYC etc. so it probably won't be an event that causes him problems related to this health issue.

Even by arena gouging standards, this is a bit much (from Arthur Ashe)

lol - Reminds me of my last trip to Disneyland - My daughter was hungry and wanted a banana, so I grabbed a couple. It was $2 a banana, so that my last fruit purchase in the Magic Kingdom.

Please tell me the $11.50 beer is at least a full draught pint like they serve at the Aussie open? If that's a small glass or bottle that is just as horrendous as the food...

Although Rebecca Marino is not at this year's US Open, it has to be encouraging to see that players she has beaten this year (Vera Lapko for one) are winning singles matches at the US Open. She's had a great 2018 and if this upward trajectory continues, she should be a regular on the WTA tour sometime in 2019.

Also, three retirements so far today on the men's side of the draw - Looks like the heat/humidity is getting to several players.
Edit: Heat rule in effect.

Djoker and Fucsovics are 1 set all right now. I'm not able to watch, how is Djoker playing?

Novak is struggling with the weather. Given that this has become an ongoing problem at the US Open, and with rain also being an issue, can't imagine it's long before this becomes a mostly indoor event. They'd be better off playing at Indian Wells, which is saying something since it's just as hot as NY, but with no humidity.

I'm not watching, but Fucsovics is up a break in set 3 - Obviously giving Joker all he can handle at the moment.

Looking like barring a miracle, this is the end of the road for Polansky (down 2-6, 0-3). Was really hoping he had something special left in the tank to push Zverev out of another major event early. He's just overmatched at this point.
