I think when a lot of shots are hitting the chest that can be a sign of a team not shooting well but also a sign that a goalie is tracking the play, in position and playing the angles
I like it when a goalie makes it look easy

In part. Depends on the shot.
For example, if Stamkos’s one timer hits the goalie in the logo, the goalie is standing beside the post and his logo is in front of the top corner.
That’s not good positioning.

Does it really make a huge difference who is starting these days?
One of em has to get going, there's no question about that.

So glad TB and Fla are treated as equals.
Smith was caught by Father Time in Feb of 2018. Then he got injured. Then his equipment got smaller. He’s done as an NHL goalie, and every time he starts it costs us points.
He played fine against a bottom feeder Fla team. Not his fault we lost. Sadly, I expect a different outcome vs Pit. Prove me wrong.

Agree with all of this except I don’t expect anything in particular tomorrow.
Depends in part on Pitt’s O and Calgary’s D.
Afternoon games are weird.

Technically correct (the best kind of correct).
Thought he was obviously using hyperbole

Why do we need to get pedantic when people are pretty obviously using hyperbole?

Why do some need to exaggerate to make a point?
He's had a bad year. He does not cost the team points whenever he plays.

You know, Smith proving to be able to take some games and be competitive might take some of the mental burden off Rittich. Maybe he's one of those guys when he feels it's all on him, his shoulders start to sag under the weight. Wouldn't be strange for a "rookie" goalie to be overcome by high expectations.

I sort of a agree with this. But I just think It’s a long season and I think every player is entitled to a stretch where they’re not at their best. It’s a lot to ask of a sophomore goaltender to take on all the hard matchups and expect greatness every night.
To me, I don’t think Rittich has been that bad. There’s been a couple softies, but even then, all goaltenders give up a bad goal occasionally. I just think he’s played some tough teams like the Sharks and the Lightning who routinely make goaltenders look bad with their scoring prowess.
Give Rittich a game against Arizona to rebuild his confidence and give Mike Smith a couple more stiff tests before the TDL to see if he can be trusted for the playoffs. If he can pass these tests, then maybe the Flames don’t bother acquiring a rental.

Rittich's game against Tampa was about as good as Smith's game tonight. If there was a difference, it was the caliber of opponent and the play of the skaters in front.

I don't think Rittich has been bad, but I do think he has not been nearly as good as he was earlier in the season.

Smith has a 3-1 record against the Coyotes in his career with the Flames. I think I would actually go back to him and start Rittich against NYI.
