Default Flames in Boston. 5pm MT. SNW

From Calgaryflames.com

US
The Flames are coming off a 5-3 win over the Red Wings in Detroit Wednesday night to start this four game road swing. Once again it the was the top line that lead the way, with Gaudreau scoring the game-winner in the third period and collecting three helpers. Elias Lindholm had a goal and two helpers and Sean Monahan had a goal and an assist. Mike Smith was excellent between the pipes, making 29 saves and earning the player of the game nod from his teammates … The Flames have won two straight and three of their last four and sport an impressive +31 goal differential.

THEM
The same day it was announced the Flames would meet the Jets for an outdoor tilt in the Heritage Classic at Regina's Mosaic Stadium Oct. 26, the Bruins hit the ice for an outdoor tilt of their own. Tuukka Rask made 39 saves to lead his team to a 4-2 win Tuesday over the Blackhawks in front of a sold-out crowd of 76,126 at Notre Dame Stadium in the 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. Sean Kuraly scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and Brad Marchand sealed it with an empty-netter with 33 seconds left to play. David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron each had a goal and an assist to round out the scoring for Boston … The Bruins are 6-4-0 in their last 10 tilts, and have won two straight, including a 3-2 overtime victory in Buffalo on Dec. 29.

Ryan Leslie @ryanleslie73
Sounds like Mike Smith starts vs Boston tonight. Other lineup decisions to come.

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Mike Smith will get his second straight start vs. #Bruins. Jon Gillies will back-up. #Flames might make one change at forward. #CGYvsBOS

edit:

Head coach Bill Peters said there is a chance Andrew Mangiapane could draw into the lineup if he's medically cleared to play but for the time being plans to ice the same lineup that beat the Red Wings 5-3 in Detroit Wednesday night.

Thanks Sureloss!

Sorry to nitpick, but you labelled it as a PGT, not GDT. With that being said, I still salute you.

Edit: Fixed.

I just want to see one solid Bennett hit on Brad Marchand! (And a Flames win!)

I'm expecting Dubé would probably be the odd-man-out for Czarnik.

This should be an interesting one. Smith seems due for a lock-it-down performance, I'd love to see him just take over this one.

Now I'm a little concerned about Rittich. Hope he can play on Saturday.

Hate predicting losses, but Smith is awful against Boston. 4-12

This isn't a hating Smith thing, its a stat thing. Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst.

Tough game here. Flames need to have a strong 1st period.

Smith played a strong game against Boston earlier in the year. Smith continues to get his groove back.

This is a bad choice by Peters. Smith already has the endurance of a diseased yak on its deathbed and played last night and you are going to throw him in against the Bruins? Then again I guess the other choice is Gillies who has not been good in the AHL but given Smith is going to get shallacked why not see if the kid can come in and steal one? 8-4 Bruins, prove me wrong Smith.

I'd go back to Smith, he just won.

Worried about Pastrnak and Marchand with the cross-crease ability though.

Wow that's a poor record against any team. He was all right last night with no soft goals allowed but he will need to be better tonight if the Flames are going to win. The Flames in particular will have to get off to a much better start against the Bruins as that first period last night was really bad.

this will be a tough one for the flames. boston plays well through the neutral zone and defensively. they can really slow down the flames attack and stifle a dump-in game with their strength along the boards. doesn't help that it's another back-to-back, 3 in 4 nights situation... hoping for a point here, this game is close to a scheduled loss

Seven Things to Watch for Tonight
  1. Sean Monahan is one goal from tying Jim Peplinski and becoming 13th all time in goals as a Flame.
  2. T.J. Brodie is two assists from tying Lanny McDonald in assists as a Calgary Flame.
  3. Elias Lindholm is one goal from passing Troy Brouwer and Toni Lydman among others.
  4. Mike Smith will tie Jonas Hiller is games played as a Flame tonight. Smith already has won two more games.
  5. Mark Giordano is one point from tying Marek Židlický and becoming 101st all time in points as an NHL D man.
  6. Mark Giordano is one goal from tying Andrei Markov and Calle Johansson becoming 65th all time in goals in the NHL while playing Defence.
  7. Mike Smith is one win from tying Johnny Bower in wins in the NHL as a goalie. A win would move him into 60th place all time.

Sounds like they will get Czarnik in tonight which I hope they do, especially since it's his old team and a back to back. Give Dube the night off to watch from above.

A bit worried about this one. Bruins are a good team. Smith had a good game last night. But a back to back worries me he'll slide a bit. Not that Gillies is a better option...

Flames' offence is going to have to show up big for this one if they want to win.
