I don't understand the desire to screw up the Flames depth and salary structure for a guy whose agent overvalues him and has had 2 good years playing with a generational player. All the comparables I have seen put Nylander in the middle, not at the top, nor far and away above others.

Remind me again what exactly he brings to the table?

Trading 2/3/4 assets for Nylander and then having to pay him Driesitel money - might as well change the team name to "Oilers South".

Green text, right?

If not then Tre should be able to sign Tkachuk for $5 mm X 6 also, right?
Dad for sure will have him holding out for Monahan money.

lots of bennett trade smoke.

second time in a week Friedman has made mention of Bennett, a trade, and/or his value.

This I agree with. All unprompted.

Don't see any of the teams he noted offering anything of value, but its worth an eyebrow raise for sure.

Still, my gut says its nothing.

I think Treliving is leery about trading away Bennett on the cheap, after he gave away Byron for nothing.

I think the bigger issue is that Bennett has way more value to the Flames than anyone else. Might get another reclamation project back or a 2nd round pick or something along those lines unless another GM really buys into the draft pedigree.

It isn't like he is in the way of anyone and taking up time he shouldn't from someone better. Better off hoping he finds his game until he gets pushed out or becomes a UFA.

Lots of article clicks when you use a smoke machine.

He also brought it up on his own during his weekly radio spot with the Fan 960 last week. Nothing to promote that day.

I'd go Neal, Hamonic for Nylander and a pick.

Come on man the Leafs are not taking that let alone adding a pick. Also they actually can afford Nylander long term

Why would we trade Neal?

If you trade a forward who you just signed as a UFA literally 3 months ago. You can kiss any desire for any other UFA's to sign in Calgary.

If we didn't just sign Neal maybe we could afford Nylander and Tkachuk extensions moving forward.

However it would cost us a lot in assets and I doubt Nylander signs for 6.75m so our cap structure would be out the window along with a top 4 dman ++.

I don’t want to trade Bennett but a deal I could see is Ho Sang+Flames 2nd in 2019. We get our pick back from the Hamonic trwde and trwde one talented 2014 1st for another.

I have said though that I want to give Bennett a long rope this year and if need be cut bait this summer.

You could probably get Ho Sang for free. He's not even with the Islanders, he's down at the farm team.

For a team that concerns itself so much with culture, bringing in Ho Sang would be a step backward.

At this point, does Bennett really have a ton of hockey value even here? I think you could take him out of this lineup and barely miss a beat. Any additional "value" is less about how he fits on a team, and more about wanting to minimize embarrassment. And I don't think thats value, thats more just pride/fear.
