the logic, and excuses are brilliant. The cold snap has definitely frozen the brains up North.

I think we can thank John Shannon for that new narrative from the Oilers base. Isn't this what he threw into some radio show a little while ago?

It is just crazy how we have yet to hear an honest appraisal of the Oilers situation from upper management or even really their media for the most part. I remember when Torts was doing his final press conference with the Canucks and he said the team had to get younger and that big changes needed to be made. That's the kind of stuff that you won't ever get from any of the Oilers higher ups. Honest appraisal because they are simply incapable.
Sometimes they will be on the right path and say things about lack of forward depth, the need for another top defenseman, or a lack of leadership or even veteran presence but always, without fail, every single time, it is followed up by the never ending praise of the amount of highly skilled players they have up front.
The media has always been in lock step with Oilers higher ups in perpetuating this ongoing myth about the incredible level of skill the Oilers possess. From Hemsky to Gagner, Cogliano, Eberle, RNH, Hall, Draisaitl, McDavid, Nurse, Klefbom. I am sure we have all heard the the following "We all know that this power play of the Oilers will eventually figure it out, there is just too much skill out there for it not to". Or the media using words like "high octane" or "ultra skilled". Or the classic "Hard to believe the Oilers are where they are, given the amount of skill on that line up". It never ends!! Not sure if it was the Oilers management who were the creators of this myth or the media, kind of a chicken and the egg sort of scenario, but both are to blame (or high five?) here.

McKenzie speculating that the relationship between management and Puljujarvi might be fractured beyond repair. He also mentioned that they don't know if Puljujarvi will go [to the AHL].

Hitchcock's had some pretty honest appraisal of the team. He's really bucking the organizational culture with it though.

Friedman was more cautious on Fan960. He said it's a problem, and management knows its a problem, but wasn't willing to say it can't be salvaged.

From what I understand the biggest issue is that Edmonton keeps telling Pulju what kind of player they want him to be and then every different coach or GM or whomever changes their mind and now neither Edmonton nor Pulju know what kind of player any of them want him to be.
And seeing as how next season theres going to be a new manager and a new coach, etc, etc, it doesnt seem as though that problem isnt going to change.

They keep explaining it in English, but the Oilers haven't taught him any.

This in itself is a huge problem. It seems like Puljujarvi has some influence on his own assignments, and his attitude with regards to the AHL has been a stumbling block to his own development.
I found a translation of comments made by his agent in an interview carried in a Finnish paper last week:
Quote:
"...Jesse has already been in the AHL. The plan was great, but then things changed...
"My own opinion is that if Jesse could play 10 games in the same line with 15-17 minutes per game, and a bit of PP time, he would bring results just like the other wingers there. AHL is a league which doesn't necessarily have much to give to Jesse anymore."
|
Bear in mind that this is a player who has a total of 53 AHL games, and has scored 15 goals and 37 points. That's nuts.

Probably caught it at WEM from a mouthbreathing Oilers fan.
Either that or it was a nice parting gift from Brandon Manning before he was officially dispatched to Bakersfield.
Probably both.
