A week that started out with such good promise ends with a thud. Oh well, on to the next tourney.

Too bad. I would have predicted this match going the exact opposite way....Tomic must be aching for some more coin these days to come out firing like that.

Well, we now know that the 250 Chengdu final will be Tomic vs Fognini.
250 Shenzen final still TBD but we do know that Pierre-Hugues Herbert will be one of the finalists there as he grinded out a tough, grueling 3 set victory over Alex Di Minaur. The other finalist will be either Verdasco or Nishioka (early signs say most likely Verdasco as he seems well on his way to winning that match).
Of note to me is that the semifinal losers in Chengdu actually got special exemptions into the main draw of next week's tournaments (Sousa in 500 Beijing, Fritz in 500 Tokyo) what a nice consolation prize.
Meanwhile, it looks as though Tomic the tank will get next week off regardless of whether he manages to win the Chengdu 250 title or loses to Fabio.

Wow. Nishioka pulls it off and he will face PHH in the Shenzen final. Verdasco double faults to aid in capping off Nishioka's win, but huge comeback from the diminutive Japanese player nonetheless.

Nice to see Vasek get into the China Open beating Tennys Sandgren in his final qualification match.

Canadians in action tonight include Milos and Denis (both playing at the Japan Open). Milos faces Adrian Mannarino while Denis takes on Hyeon Chung.
