I hope all this shuffling means a bigger role for Cory Sarich.

Darren Haynes with some praise on his Flames From 80 Feet Facebook account:
Quote:
Big congratulations to Ryan Leslie, who will be Sportsnet’s new host/reporter covering the Calgary Flames this season. A good guy (and a regular podcast guest of mine in the early days) who has put in his time over the years, this is a great opportunity and I have no doubt he’ll be excellent. Heck, we’ve already seen a sneak preview as last season he handled hosting duties on road games for Roger Millions. This year, it’s all him with Roger having retired from being a broadcaster. Ryan will move on from being a Flames employee upon the team’s return from China and their two-game exhibition series with Boston.

Leslie knows the team backwards and forwards and was basically the logical choice for the gig. He's a true pro and will be a good fit.

Leslie is perfect for this job. Among the most knowledgeable sportscasters I've had the pleasure to talk to.

So who's gonna host Flames TV now? Hallett?

I would imagine some combination of Hallett and Cayla Spiess, who hosts Hitmen TV (and I believe covered Hallett's maternity leave).

I think that is in the job description for the Oilers. Must be a puppet for the team.

Good for Ryan Leslie, he truly deserves to have the role. I look forward to seeing more of him.

Tkachuk's tweet kind of confirms what I figured from watching the players interact with him - They love him about as much a team can like a media guy. Always joking around and interacting with him like he's one of the guys.

Great choice.

Is it just me or is Rogers the only sportscaster that hires folks like this?

Does TSN hire on air talent with job postings on Monster or Calgary Job Shop?

Probably. As I understand it they do this as a formality, to say they posted the job publicly. And Ryan Leslie was not hired this way, he was already working for the Flames and did this exact job for the away games last season.

They didn't see his resume online, what made you think that?

Yes, Bell has a site where you can search for open positions across Canada like the Rogers one where this was posted. It's not uncommon. In fact, it's probably required that these positions must be publicly posted for a minimum amount of time even if they have a preferred candidate.

TSN doesn't currently have any on-air postings, but W5 is looking for a Correspondent: https://jobs.bce.ca/bell/job/Toronto...-ON/496557900/

If it kept her off of the Flames broadcasts as the main back up colour commentator during the play by play, Id be all for this option. I pray to the lord above Hrudey is not going anwhere.
