Our car's breaks are acting a bit strange and I was hopeful someone could help me out on this so I don't have to bring it to the shop and be weary if what the garage tells me is true or not.

The brakes squeak on the car, but only when you are lightly breaking. For example, when I'm backing out of my driveway I can hear the squeaking loud and clear, but when I brake to a stop light after going 50km there is zero sound. I swapped off my winter tires this weekend and the pads have lots of life left and I couldn't see any visible damage to the rotors. I will say I didn't really know what I was looking for though. Braking power is still normal.

Any thoughts?

Is it just one? You may have a tiny pebble or something stuck in it. One trick is to reverse swiftly and hit the brakes hard a few times. It can help dislodge it.

When you checked the pad wear, did you look well on the inside?

Exact same thing happened to me. Weird squeaking noise and almost like it was grinding. Took it to the mechanic and there were some tiny rocks in the brakes. Not a big deal at all. Cost was $25

Sounds like the e brake is dragging a bit in reverse. My f150 is doing same thing. Justa minor squeak when backing out of the drive but no where else. The mechanics of the adjuster need that drag to continually adjust for wear.

My current Mustang is black, so I know all about the dirt showing. I find that I take her in every other week or so for a quick spray, and she's looking good again.

I must admit, that purple is damn tempting.

I can also vouch for ECO Dent Repair. Affordable and professional as I have been using them for years. They removed dent off my aluminum hood from the bottom of a coke bottle that I thought would be impossible.

Tiny rocks? Would have never though of that. I'll try the reverse trick, Fuzz.

Maybe I don't understand your question (car novice for sure), but I didn't check the inside of the pads. I just look through that hole thing to see how the wear looks. Didn't see anything unusual when doing that.

Ya, that's fine, some vehicles are really tough to see the inner pad. I also like to run the back of my finger nail(avoids greasy fingers) across the rotor just to see if there are lots of ridges forming or not, since it can be tough to see the ridges, and the rusty lip that can form at the edge, which could be a source of noise.

I see it comes on the Mach 1 as well. Hope I see one in person soon those people purples usually look great when the sun hits them.

Dark cars always suck for dirt. My current truck is 2012 f150 in golden bronze and it is so nice for hiding a bit of dust and puddle muck. So much better than black.

Is this only when backing up slowly? Or does it squeak when braking slowing going forwards as well?

*chants* T-V-R! T-V-R!

If I could afford it, I would have a Sagaris, T350, or Tuscan.

If two G35 drivers meet at an intersection, and no one is around to hear the inevitable crash, does it make a sound?
