The gap between Ferrari, McLaren, Merc and AM seems larger this year. If Max had retired at any of the first 10 or so races last year, we’d have been in for a real battle between at least 3 of those teams plus Perez. Not so much anymore. Clearly Ferrari is 2nd best, McLaren 3rd best and AM/Merc are a ways back.

Still a decent race and nice to see Sainz with the win.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Carlos join Max next season when they ditch Perez. He did start out at Toro Rosso with Max in 2015.

Alonso's penalty seems harsh.

This isn't the first time George has run out of talent in the closing laps.

Disagree man. Alonso shifted down, brake checked, shifted up again, then took the turn. Maybe I watched a more damning analysis but lol in what world do you do that. Certainly not for lap times..
The stewards had all the telemetry and have to say wow, f that guy

I feel like a dark horse for Sainz might be AM. Rumors are Fernando is the leader for the Merc seat . Even if they keep Fernando Sainz is such a massive upgrade over Stroll daddy couldn't say no.

I haven't seen anything other than what was on the broadcast. ESPN cuts away as soon as the trophy presentation is over.

YouTube TV doesn't carry ESPN3

Results from Australia! Tough week for some of us going 0-fer on any slotted picks. Congrats to Calumniate who wins the week with 2 correct slotted and 7/10 Top-10. 4 way tie behind with DoubleK, 3thirty, Fuzz, and Speede5 going 1 slotted and 7/10.

It tightened the race at the top with 13 pts covering the top 7. Agulati stays on top with a 5pt lead over TimSJ.

Next up is SUZUUUUUUUKKKAAAAAAA...looks like qualifying is right at midnight MDT on Friday...

Spoiler!

Yeah, I totally agree with the penalty. You cant change your braking points by 50-100m (based on Sky data reports) when Russell has been following within a couple seconds for 10+ laps. Especially through T6-7. It was apparently a lift, then a light tap on the brake, and reacceleration. But Russell isnt expecting it, by the time he does he's right on Alonso's gear box and near the apex/turn-in so hitting the brake has predictably scary results.

If it was similar to Saudi and Max/Lewis on a straight...thats somewhat avoidable...this was dangerous and Alonso should know better.

Here is the video I watched about it:

I think at times you can be juking for position for sure, but the idea of downshifting early, then on the gas after that with and upshift, then take the normal brake point and downshift is pretty blatant. I'm by no means an expert in F1 though. I'm more well-versed in Rally, where this type of stuff never comes up

The incident looks worse on telemetry than it does on either of the onboards. The red lights flash on ALO's car when he's off throttle so George should have been able to anticipate some slow down (but tbf probably not that much).

If George kept his head the incident would have been slightly 'naughty', but alas last lap Georgie Boy...

This used to be called 'racecraft' but with the entire world going soft, it's now a penalty.

It was the last freaking lap. Those points are big bucks. It is absolutely incumbent on Alonso to do whatever he can within the rules to hold position.

The stewards got this wrong IMO.

Apparently Johnny Herbert was the driver steward, and he's had a feud with Alonso dating back to 2016 when he wrote an article claiming Alonso was washed up and should retire.
