6 games left for Mews, would be awesome if he could get to 90!

Okay, I've always had serious concerns with the Flames prospects signing when they play for NCAA clubs given the history of those players electing to not sign with their original drafting club. If Mews goes to Michigan, does he become a signability risk?

From what I've read, CHL players who now go NCAA will have their rights extended, in Mews case that would be to August 2027 from his current right expiry of June 2026.

And will Mews be finished his NCAA career by August 2027? Or could he potentially stay beyond that?

Found this link on the main forum discussion about Mews. Looks like it would actually be until 2029 that we'd hold his rights. He'd have to forego 5 years after draft which if he had any NHL potential would probably not be a good financial move on his part so not much of a risk IMO.

If he goes to the NCAA next season and plays all four years of college, the Flames would hold his rights until August 15, 2029. However, because there's a one-year gap between his draft and his freshman year, he could announce he was leaving college early and become a free agent as early as June 1, 2028 (the same loophole Schultz used back in the day).
