Well in fairness getting your face kicked in constantly tends to become 'routine' after a while.

Nothing like stocking up on late first round picks in a not-deep draft.

Hanifin was the one pending UFA I was hoping we could find a way to keep. But frankly I don’t blame anyone for wanting to leave right now. The team clearly isn’t good enough today to compete and given the moves they’re making it’s looking like we won’t be competitive for a while.

Not an overly attractive situation for veteran players who want to win now.

First round is pretty good top to bottom. We’re going to get good players.

Unfortunately I think this team is going to be very bad for several years, especially on D.

With Hanifin likely leaving along with Tanev, that leaves the Flames with Andersson and Weegar as the only NHL-calibre D on the team. I know there's Kylington too, but the guy sat for nearly two years so there's only so much we can expect from him. The team will have to try and muddle along with mediocre free-agent vets signed to above-market contracts at least for a while and that's not a recipe for success.

you just have to take a good look in the mirror amd be honest with yourself ... this team is 24th in the league, and that's with Hanifin, Tanev and Markstrom. This team is going nowhere, and that's okay. You just can't keep going like this and hope to sneak into a playoff spot and get all of two home games.

There's good young pieces and a solid prospect pool already, just need to add to it. The Flames are in a prime position to build for a great future ... two upcoming UFA defensemen and a great goaltender who has rebounded and rebut his trade stock. That's perfect for a team that needs an injection of high picks and prospects in the worst way ... just need to be honest with yourself.

It's okay to suck for a bit. You want to have a good team in place when the new barn is ready? Then embrace it. Sell.

Add to that having 2 borderline NHL goalies and a lack of scoring.

Yikes.

Yeah I suspect the next 4-5 years are going to be extremely ugly. But on the plus side that’s how most teams eventually get good.

Good. This team has loved going out and getting veteran forwards for too long. They've been bleeding picks and loading up on guys who weren't getting better. Keep the old guys away and keep getting young players. The team still has Huberdeau, Kadri, Backlund, and Coleman. There's enough veteran leadership to teach some kids.

Load up on picks and build for the future.

There are no dominant players on the team
There is no way to retool
Like it or not they will be forced to rebuild. Question is at the top or bottom of the lotteries?

You’re right, we should hand out some extensions to this group and bring in some aging vets to push us over the top…

I don’t think it’s blown off. It might not have been as close as we were hoping, but I’m pretty sure that devils and flames are still talking

How so?

Would think a speculated trade of this magnitude will take a while to complete.

If it does occur

Cap alone is difficult,

We have no idea what the return is for any of these guys. I get you are the rebuild guy.. but I'd wait to see the returns before celebrating.

Dude, the smoke was ‘something is happening NOW!!!’ when it should have been ‘something interesting is happening and maybe there will be a trade.’

I don’t blame the insiders or their sources. I think fans jump to conclusions.

The offer was not good enough to take to Marky. NJD tried to force the issue through media whores ‘leaking’ stuff.

It’s very unlikely the offer was as crazy good as we all hoped it would be.

The focus should be on UFAs and that’s it. If we could rewind I would have liked Conroy to shoot down the rumours and say, ‘right now my priority is sorting out the UFA situation.’

Yeah people need instant gratification these days it seems like. Maybe NJ is trying to grab a dman at the same time? Or maybe the outdoor game was delaying it. Or maybe Markstrom is thinking it over.
