So one is re-initiating their season because theres a gun to their head and the other is....just because?
As the salaries for the players aren't very high by pro sports standards, the WNBA may be trying to ensure that their players (especially the ones that don't have an option of playing overseas later in the year) don't suffer financial hardship with a lost season.
As long as it's women and not black people we're making fun of, this joke is fine with me.
I don’t see it as a joke. Seriously, why play?
And why let all their fans show up to watch? Now that’s a joke.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
I thought it was only televised games, empty stadium
That’s what Slug was getting at I think. There has been little to no drop in attendance this season for the WNBA. If you find a game from 2019 there’s only 100-200 more fans in attendance than a game from this year.

It is. He's making a joke about the WNBA having no fans. Same as the one that goes, "The Panthers will have an unfair advantage in the play in round; they're the only team that gets to bring all their fans to Toronto with them". I feel like variations of that joke have been made at least a dozen times on this forum alone.

I can see why you'd think I was making that joke, but I'm seriously not.
Most major sports Leagues have obligations to provide content to satisfy obligations to sponsors and Television Contracts, the WNBA is an almost entirely subsidized league so this is not that.

Then pay them, this has to be costing them way more money than paying them and cancelling.
Same for the NHL. Which is why all signs point to outside forces. This is costing them a fortune to operate.

one league source said that a "conservative figure" for WNBA league revenue is $60 million
Quote:
ESPN pays the WNBA $25 million per season for the right to broadcast some of its games
(that's about 40% of 60M)
Quote:
WNBA teams also have corporate sponsors and those can be substantial. It was recently reported the Connecticut Sun earn 40% of their revenue just from these sponsorships.

So apparently, it's been a pretty violent weekend in the US. Someone in a vehicle driving by opened fire at protesters in Austin, Texas and in Colorado, someone driving a jeep struck a few protesters.

Here’s two links to the story from Austin, if you approach someone and point an AK47 at them, there’s a good chance one would feel threatened and fire first if possible.
It’s interesting the times article highlights witnesses saying the muzzle was pointed down whereas the abc article found witnesses that said he pointed it at the driver.
Though stand my ground in this case is pretty ridiculous if you are allowed to drive into a crowd of people and when they respond to your violent act you get to shoot them because you feel threatened. Really shows the disaster that is open carry.

It's almost like eyewitnesses are an unreliable evidentiary source...

This doesn't appear to be a car intentionally ramming the crowd, the video shows he was just driving down the street like one does, maybe 5km/hr at most. Then an angry mob of people took exception to his act of driving on a street and started banging on his car. Followed by an AK being pointed in his face.
In Texas.
Seems about as open and shut a case of self-defense as you'll see, at least by American (Texas) standards. The driver has apparently already been released from jail as well. He hasn't been identified yet though.

This is a tough video to watch in the link below, but also important to recognize just how real and alive racism is this very day. Some of the worst America has to offer...

Unless you were living under the illusion that racism no longer exists, or still think that "All Lives Matter" is an okay response to Black Lives Matter, or somehow missed the memo that Black Lives Matter does not now and has not ever meant that Black Lives Matter more than others, the responses are appalling. As one commenter pointed out, it almost comes across like a South Park episode with exaggerated caricatures of real people. Only these are real people.
