Woke up to the news, this sucks.

Always thought he had so much power in his voice, and it made the songs he sung.

RIP

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Wow. I saw him last year during his acoustic tour. He was great of course. I remember thinking how fit he looked for a 50 year old.

Sadly, he may have taken his own life.

Soundgarden was one of my favorite bands in the 90s. Such a loss..

Arrrgh! I knew as soon as I saw his name pop up on this page that it was bad news. Very disappointing news. I have always been a big Soundgarden fan but even on his own the man was just so talented with one of the great voices in rock. Has it been confirmed as suicide?

with his long term drug and alcohol abuse, it probably weakened his heart, etc. didn't he say he started when he was 12?

hope it wasn't suicide as someone just posted.

one of the great voices of his generation. RIP

Sounds like police are investigating it as a possible suicide, but that pretty much the last I heard.

TMZ has reported it looks like suicide so take that for what it's worth.

The family's statement saying "sudden and unexpected" makes me think they had no reason to suspect a suicide. How much worse for them I think if it turns out to be true and they really had no idea or didn't suspect that was even a possibility.

What awful news to wake up to. Many of my musical heroes are dying now in their 70s and 80s. Chris had so many good years left. Such sad news.

He just played a regular show two hours before, and the suicide was sudden an unexpected. Will be interesting to know how this went down.

RIP Casino Royale theme singer.

Terrible news... Cant believe it. The rythym guitarist I've been playing with for over 15 years is devastated. The first time we jammed together we played AIC and Soundgarden songs to feel each other out... I'm sure we will be going through badmotorfinger on Saturday.

Grateful for the music he left us. RIP.

Brutal, one of my favourites. I saw him in an acoustic set a few years back, his talent is just incredible. He did a cover of Led Zeppelin's Thank You, man it was such an experience.

I always had a far out pipe dream one day I would get to see him and Eddie sing Hunger Strike live..

There are few videos that have stuck with me from my childhood but Black Hole Sun was definitely at the top.
