If they were serving Alberta beef before, it sucked. Steaks from non-steak places usually aren't great and I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to my expectations when I do decide to get a steak from places like that but Earls was tied with Moxie's for the worst steaks from these types of chains.

Any change from what they had before will be an improvement.

It was pretty close. Like, for a 19 year-old guy who was already clearly balding, I look back and think that I did pretty well. In the moment though, the pain was liquid fire in my chest.

Do many people really inquire about or even consider where the food at a given restaurant is sourced from? I get that this kind of thinking is on the uptick, but is it common or prevalent? I never give it a moment's thought.

I never did before, but stuff like this makes me want to try to shop more locally.

If it's meeting the standards of Temple Grandin that they are after then I'm 100% on board and admire their decision. I think she is amazing and brilliant and love what she does. Kudos Earl's.

At high end steak places they usually tell you where their beef selections come from.

Chains like this though, they usually just say USDA Choice beef, or the Canadian equivalent, I forget what that is.

I cant believe there is an entire industry dedicated to how an animal is killed and that outrage comes from the people eating the remains.

I'm not interested in its life story, I'm more concerned about its deliciousness.

Are people this protective about other ingredients, or just beef?

Have any of you ever boycotted a restaurant because their produce, alcohol, poultry, table linens, dishes, light fixtures etc weren't supporting local suppliers?

It seems like the entire place could be "made in china", as long as they don't F with your Alberta beef!

Keep in mind it is all beef that Earl's has switched and not just steaks. So ground beef (burgers) etc. is included.

No more lubicon at Earl's I guess, too bad because I did like their burgers.

Earls = no good

People are too funny on here.

In regards to the beef, does this mean all of their prices will increase by 15 to 20%?

I have. I once went to a high-end restaurant with my wife and their elite wine special was Copper Moon Merlot for $49.

My grandmother drinks that stuff out of a 50 Gallon Drum and it retails for like $5.99 a bottle. Thanks but no thanks, what else are you gouging the hell out of us for?

Which is fine - but if I go to a high end steak restaurant because I want to eat steak, knowing where the beef is from isn't going to sway me one way or another. I'm wondering how many people it's a deciding factor for.

It's like this "bourbon bar" in Gastown, Vancouver that sells double shots of Old Grand Dad for $11, when you can buy it at BC Liquor for $27 a bottle. Vancouver really grinds my gears.
