Also just having a very simple trespassing rule is something that cops can easily understand and accommodate. There's no buddy buddy with a doc or nurse to get what you want. You go through that door other cops get called to come take you away. Simple, attainable goals.
That isn't simple at all - as a nurse who has worked in an Emergency Department before who do you think makes sure that patients who have committed a crime don't leave the hospital or investigates criminal acts such as sexual assaults, assault, murder, and the like when the suspect and/or the victim are in the hospital.

I am not saying that is what happened because it obviously wasn't the case, but your system is overly simplistic and naive.

This is a university hospital so they have campus cops. I'm sure it's a different story for other hospitals. But most major universities have heir own police. So it's probably not an issue for this hospital. You could still have a no talking to nurses or doctors rule in most places. Just tell the supervisor you need to accompany a patient or whatever.

Can't tell if serious.

Nurses, doctors, etc can be victims, witnesses and everything in between.

And where would you stop. In an IT job, no talking to the programmers. Its our policy. House construction, no talking to the framers.

No talking to anyone. It's our policy.

I'm glad the DA is doing a full investigation.

As I stated above, merely letting her go is insufficient consequence for those involved

So if a nurse or doctor is the victim of a crime inside the hospital I assume the supervisor would let the cops in. Or again, they do have campus cops.

If they're witnesses the city cops could politely ask the supervisor if they could talk to them. Or if only there were a legal means of compelling a doctor or nurse to testify. I suppose though if the Salt Lake PD wanted things the easy way, they could have played by the rules in the first place.

Cop fired.
His superior demoted.

I suspect more will come, this time with hospital security being disciplined as well.
