Memo to Sports Net: Turn up the crowd volume for next season
Watching all these playoff games on different stations and how the crowd seems so involved it just infuriates me that we can't even hear the crowd on our telecasts. Watching on NBC the volume is up, on CBC the volume is up and on TSN the volume is up.
Now I'm no audio expert but would this be something hard to do?
The game is much more enjoyable when the crowd volume is turned up. Is there a reason why they keep it so low? Is it the same with other SN stations?
If you can't figure out how to sync the audio can you please at least turn up the crowd volume?

It's a Dome issue, at least for the home games, not a SN issue. If you are noticing a difference in our home games between the networks, then maybe there is something to what you are saying, but is haven't noticed it.
I'm not sure what the issue actually is, the Domes acoustics (I've heard they suck) or in building mic placement, but the noise in the dome from the crowd has never been picked up properly. One of the reasons behind the Dome being called the library (as well as our very quiet crowds back in the day). But every time since the lock out I've come back from a playoff game when the crowd was electric, re-watched the game on PVR (which was on CBC or TSN) and I have been flabbergasted as to how little the crowd noise translated.

Call me crazy, but I definitely hear a difference in the ambient/crowd noise on other networks. Sportsnet games sound like they are being played in a church.

It's a Sportsnet issue, and seemingly not just for hockey. Sportnet and TSN shared the Raptors regular season games, and the crowd noise on the Sportsnet feed was much lower in the same building, a day apart, at comparable times of the game.

You guys could be on to something for sure, I'm mean the SN production value on the regional broadcast are much lower budget, so not hard to believe it impacts that as well. Although I'm also sure there is something to the Dome issue I mentioned above as well. And remember, SN covers a lot of meaningless games in places like Phoneix and Florida where there is no crowd to make noise
I definitely agree with the mob here, the "crowd volume" is always significantly better on TSN/CBC than Sportsnet. It's really one of just the simplest yet most crucial aspects for live sporting events to have nailed down.
Furthermore, I find a lot of Sportsnet issues are sound related. Where it be volume, syncing, PBP, etc. The picture is fine, but god, they fail miserably on half the battle.
This is a great idea... I thought the same thing earlier this year after going to a game at the dome and the place was crazy loud but when I watched the PVR recording of the game it made the dome sound quiet.
There is a reason the Saddledome is called the library
The Saddledome isn't some crazy insane building but it certainly isn't as terrible as the Sportsnet's poor audio production makes it seem. Similar games on CBC or TSN are totally different all because those two produce the games better.
By the way, cute signature. Love when those backfire.

It's a Sportsnet issue. I never miss watching a Flames home game if it's airing on CBC/TSN, and they are always great games. The ones aired by Sportsnet? Feels like I'm watching a regular season ball game.
But we've been beating this issue to death for years on CP.... I don't expect Sportsnet to fix it.
I like how the NFL has those guys with the big domes on the sidelines so you can hear the hits and noises more, I always wanted that, I know they have it to an extent but, louder!
