Draft targets
Lets assume we don't get the Oiler horseshoe and draft somewhere between 8-12, most people always say take the BPA and where this team will pick the BPA might just be a defenseman but IMO this team should not make their 1st pick a defenseman no matter what.
This flames team needs a highly skilled forward in the worst way, sometimes all that's needed is one skilled forward to make other forwards play better, Gaudreau did this and so did Iginla and even way back Fleury.
My top targets:
1) Berkly Catton, game changing skill with extreme high IQ, goal scoring, passing and great work ethic. 4th in WHL scoring as a 17/18 year old on a crap team is saying something.
2) Tij Iginla, hard to believe but he's better than his dad was in his draft year at just about everything and like his dad he's young going into the draft.
3) Cole Eiserman, best goal scorer in the draft, absolute lethal shot from the blueline in not seen in quite a while, very good skater but has warts in his game that needs to be addressed, also very young.
4) Terik Parascak, slick with the puck and fearless in front of the net, high IQ and good accurate shot, again very young.
Not at all sold on Cayden Lindstrom or Ivan Demidov.
Anyway just my humble opinion, feel free to post yours

1) Win the lottery, draft Celebrini.
2) If we don't win the lottery, pick one of Iginla/Lindstrom/Hage with our first pick.
3) D Leo Sahlin-Wellenius, or D Henry Mews with Vancouver's pick.
4) With the first of our second-rounders, 6'3"C Simon Zether.
5) With our second pick of the second round, we have to grab one of the big two-way D with promise: Colton Roberts and Luca Marrelli are faves, but there's also Lukas Fischer, Dominik Badinka, Spencer Gill, Harrison Brunicke, and Tarin Smith.
6) For our 3rd-rounder, C Riley Patterson.
7) For our 4th-rounder, C Petr Sikora.

I personally don't think so. He's still 17, he's got size, RHS, first full year and he's exploding near the end of the year with 20 pts in his last 10 games. I think he's going to go top 15 easily and the only way to get a 1C is drafting it and I think he has that potential.

Seems like we have a lot of wingers and goslies on the team or coming up in the system.
We seem to be light on centers and defence.
Extremely light on impactful offensive players.

If they can stay in the top 8, I want one of these:
Top forwards: Celibrini, Demidov, Lindstrom, Catton
Top D: Silayev, Levshunov, Dickinson, Parekh.
Coming out with one of those would be fantastic.

I believe in the Jays.

1) Win the lottery: Draft Celebrini.
2) If we don't win the lottery: Pick one of Lindstrom/Catton/Helenius with our first pick.
3) If NJ circles back on Markstrom and is willing to part with their 1st round pick: Tij Iginla
4) Vancouver Pick: Leo Sahlin-Wellenius
5) Our second-rounder: Simon Zether.
6) Dallas second-rounder: Alfons Freij
7) For our 3rd-rounder: Justin Poirier
8) For our 4th-rounder: Petr Sikora
9) For NJ 4th-Rounder: William McIsaac

I just don’t want them reaching for a forward if the forwards on your list are gone. I would definitely add Buium to your list of dmen. My strong personal preference would be to take a dman this year.
Next years draft is loaded with with forwards
Hagens - leads the US national development team in scoring in his D -1 year
Porter Martone - 71 points in 60 games in the OHL in his D -1 year
Michael Misa - 75 points in 67 games in the OHL in his D - 1 year
McQueen - almost a PPG for Brandon this year
William Moore - led the scoring at the World under 17 championships
And then a bunch of Europeans and Russians (Frondell, Ryabkin)
There looks like there will be 8 forwards taken too 10 next year. If the Flames think a forward is the BPA this year they should take a forward but the logical draft to expect to take a forward top 10 is next year.

In rankings Hage usually lands closer to where the Vancouver pick is, not the CGY pick.

Celebrini or Demidov.
Seriously though, out of players expected to go within a couple spots of #10, I am torn between Catton, Buium, Parekh, and Iginla. Any of those 4 and I will be pretty happy.
Hard to say who will be on the board when the Flames pick though. I can see the first 3 going in the top 7.

I think you will see a considerable jump across the board in final draft rankings for Hage. Sam Cosentino just had him at 21.
I think you could make a very easy argument that he's in the 12-15 range in this draft. For example Trevor Connelly is generally talked about as a top 10 talent in this draft without his character issues and in comparison Hage is a right handed center with near identical production in the same league.

Don't think we'll get a sniff at Celebrini but my pick is Ivan Demidov. Skates well on his edges and likes to hold on to the puck. Guys like this are play drivers.

I don't know why at all, but Lindstrom is basically my top choice at #8-10. Just something about a big center that can skate and has a good shot. Sign me up for that!
