Prey was easily the best Predator film since the original two. Everything else has been near unwatchable garbage, especially that most recent Shane Black abortion of a film that can only be construed as his malicious attempt to kill the franchise outright.

I like that Dan Trachtenberg is still using his Twitter handle from the Totally Rad Show days. I was a big of that show and it's cool to see him as a successful director.

Finally decided to try Boss Level last night. It was fine.

Felt there were some concepts they barely touched on that could have made the overall movie more interesting, and instead were completely ignored right away...
Spoiler!

, and some parts were excessively repetitive (even though that was the point).

Meh.

Prey was really good. I also watched the 2018 Predator movie. My god . . .
We just son't talk about the 2018 instalment ever again.

I really appreciated the simplicity of the movie. If any franchise needed to be broken down to its roots, it was Predator.

I was a bit worried about Prey going in casue it went straight to Disney+ (Star, Hulu, whatever), and I don't know why I felt that way to be honest. Maybe memories of Direct-to-video. I guess that's just the world we're in now.

Last summer on highway 66 we saw maybe two dozen white trailers on the way to elbow falls or forgetmenot pond. I take so many pictures of mundane #### now, that's how I remember everything. But I did not take a picture of the trailers, so can't confirm the date. It doesn't matter at all, but I'm now curious if that's what they were filming. May 10, July 21, and twice in Mid-August we were that way, according to google maps.

Yup, I liked Prey a bunch. And I purposely watched the Arnie Predator fist.

New one definitely holds up.

Prey was great. You could easily watch that not having seen any Predator movies and be just as entertained.

Just a simple monster hunt. No explanations or hokey twists

I mean if she had been cast in the first movie it would of lasted 5 seconds and she would be dead.

It is an insult to the first movie. That said Danny Glover chasing a predator is not that great either.

Actually all the sequels suck.

It was a bad movie.

It would be like putting her in a ring with Mike Tyson during his hayday. Yet a Mike Tyson armed with not just strength but laser weapons too.

It was a really bad movie.

Every movie written by Christopher Guest should be on Nadal Fan's list.

I watched Nope at the Montreal Forum yesterday, I really enjoyed it. I think US and Get Out are better but this was still really entertaining and had a couple really good scares in it.

I just don’t get how after 30 years of diminishing returns they’re still trying to make Predator, Alien, and Terminator movies. Like maybe if your bad movies were making tons of money I would get it, but even that isn’t happening.

Nah. First, Prey is a looking like a hit, at least relative to budget and expectations.

Spoiler!

Predator was never a blockbusting box office franchise, but it is a very bankable mid-budget scifi-horror franchise. The last two films before Prey made about 300M on a combined 130M budget. Alien films are also mostly reliable mid-budget money makers. Prometheus was somewhat of a hit even. Terminators are somewhat more expensive movies, but they also fairly reliably make money. Genisys made 440M on a budget of 150M.

More importantly though: none of these franchises are simply about the box office. Terminator, Alien and Predator all bring in a steady stream of merchandising profit, and every movie released helps keep those IP's relevant and profitable. Franchises like these also bring in steady revenue from TV and streaming.

Watched the new Ron Howard film Thirteen Lives the other night, about the 2018 rescue of that youth soccer team in Thailand after they were trapped for weeks in a flooded underground cave system. Pretty solid and realistic depiction of those events, with terrific performances from the entire cast.

The diving scenes are intense. Probably not the best movie to watch if you're extremely claustrophobic.
