I think Canada is going to surprise a lot of people. I think they make at least the semis.
Christine Sinclair is on a mission, she won’t be denied

I should have mentioned that Sinclair is only 4 goals away from setting the all time goals record.

Odd quirk in this years tourney. Canada is best off finishing second in their pool IMO. Then they don't have to play AUS till the semis. Their path is pretty winnable till the semis if the finish second. They would play AUS in the round of 16 otherwise.
Will be interesting as you will see either the hosts or the USA going home in the round of 16 unless some crazy group play happens. Who are both the betting odds on winning.
Edit: fixed some mis-remembering stuff.

^ in which way? Like you think she’s not “offside enough” or the official should catch it?

Well it took about 7 minutes for them to catch that she was 3 inches offside.

Yeah I really don't like the super nit picky offsides. The situations where a player is literally leaning an inch or two over the line and is called offside are pretty brutal. But I don't know where you draw the line.
And regardless of how that is solved, the timeliness of these reviews has got to be a priority.

I thought if Canada finishes 2nd in their group they get the US in round 2.

No the don’t. They have to be a 3rd place best finisher. Don’t see a way they finish lower than 2nd in group.
Unless the USA somehow finishes second in their group and so does Canada.
But without massive upsets Canada and USA shouldn’t meet till the finals.

Never mind they changed the knockout format slightly, my bad I was going on 30+ years memory. Like this one.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019...knockout_stage
Canada definitely should finish 2nd

Germany struggled but squeaked out a 1-0 win over China.
Upset alert. South Africa are up 1-0 on Spain nearly the end of the first half.

I’ve been impressed by South Africa’s organization in their own third. Spain has not had many chances at all

It's all fallen apart in the 2nd half though.

This is a wakeup call for Spain though, they won't be among the favourites to win if they repeat this performance. They were getting burned by the speed of those forwards.

I pvr'd and finished the early game. Upset as Italy defeated Australia on a late winner.
A great match, these girls just run and run and run.

The VAR penalty in the England/Scotland match is questionable to me. I know it’s a penalty by the letter of the law, but it’s just not sensible. Who knows what a “natural position” for the arm even means? The girl is running and the ball hits her arm, and it seems like someone running naturally has her arm in that position.
