Unlikely. Season 2 sucked and the story was pretty self-contained.

Well Season 2 started off with promise and then devolved into a chaotic mess.
Since nothing makes sense I dont think you need any backstory other than maybe snippets of TNG...if that.
But I warn you now...dont be fooled by the trailer. They've done that a few times already.

We are Star Trek fans. We have been abused our entire lives. Oh yeah, I'll watch it too.
Suffering is part of the fandom. The suffering is what makes rewards like Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds worth it.
The only Star Trek I have not watched in full is STD.

Super-Borg queen arrives, takes over ship.
Q puts crew into alternate evil future where the borg queen we all know and love is captured.
Crew takes queen on adventure to past earf.
Blonde chick becomes new borg queen because hey why not. She then leaves the planet. Q dead because hey why not.
Fast forward to "present", super-borg queen shows her face. PSYCHE! Ha ha, everybody has a good chuckle.
I #### you not, that is how it ends.
Oh yeah Guinan shows up for a bit.

He missed where it's teenage angst Guinan hanging out in a bar in 2020s LA even though we saw her as her composed adult self in Time's Arrow in the 19th century.
And half the show is fake drama created by bad writers who just have the main cast act like whiny brats arguing and yelling at each other instead of doing anything productive.
If anything defines TNG, it's a professional family of people who get along, discuss problems, and solve them together. I bet you season 3 will be the TNG crew yelling at each other, completing the cycling of ruining all your childhood role models.

I just have a horrible feeling that the show runners are writing themselves into a corner that can only be solved wit Moar Wesley Crusher manipulating the side line.
Oh and Jean Luc and the new Borg Queen are going to knock boots and create a true human Borg super being that saves the universe somehow.
