$42 mil in career earnings. Guy isn’t playing in the minors.

Plus now he'll get signed by a contender to a league min contract for depth probably and likely get a playoff run.

He’s suspended, not released.

If he can’t crack buffalos line up who is going to want him? If he was worth even a roster spot he’d be playing.

Crazy, it was a back-loaded contract without any signing bonuses. Whatever $6M pro-rated works out to.

Can't imagine this looks good around the league, either. PTO at best now...he may have still had some chance at a guaranteed 1 yr deal (~$700k)

Back loaded? Thats odd for a contract. Why would a player not want their money up front? You would think this would be the exact reason to not back load a contract...

Not for an RFA contract, it isn’t.

I didn't realize it was back loaded like that, only a $2m increase over the course of the deal going from $4m-$6m/yr. Its a $36m deal. he is only leaving about $1.5m on the table by not going to the minors because he's been on the active roster for about 60 games this year. Lots of money but he's also earned $42+m in his career.

My mistake, thought he had a year left on his contract.

Seems like a good move on his part to walk away from that $1.5 million if he wants to attempt to continue his career.

Now he can potentially be signed by a playoff team and try to raise his stock rather than toil in the AHL.

Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to the Flames signing him to a one-year, cheap contract. They need some new blood on defense, particularly on the right side. If it goes awry... well, he'd be cheap.

If it lets us sell Brodie and/or Hamonic, why not

Maybe we can get our depth defenseman for free instead of giving up a draft pick for one

Leafs will probably take a look. They seriously need a free and cheap Dman whether he’s any good or not.

The only reason he can't crack the Sabres lineup is that if he encounters a stiff breeze, he breaks 3 ribs.

Then Calgary is not the place for him, every time the Chinook blows in, it's mighty windy.

Elliotte Friedman
@FriedgeHNIC
Hearing BUF D Zach Bogosian notified that if he does not report to AHL Rochester today, his contract could be terminated. We will see how it plays out.

Soo when do the Flames get a break like this... when they can just terminate a bad contract.
