The Carolina Hurricanes acquire the RFA rights to winger Marcus Sorensen from the Coyotes in exchange for prospect Jonathan Gruden and defender Joe Hicketts

The Hurricanes were in need to fill some organizational holes, especially on the 4th line. Unsure if Barrett Hayton was going to be able to make the transition to the CPHL this year, plus with the uncertainty of Nicolas Aube-Kubel's game also needing some time it was necessary for the Canes to bring in some insurance

Now that the Canes have inked in one of the spots that had been penciled in previous to the re-rates, the GM has turned his attention to do the same with the other remaining spot on the 4th line before the upcoming draft

Its a risk for sure, however he has played 1 full season and generated 21 points.

(compared to a Flames dman, that would place him 2nd. Or 1 point behind 2nd)

This was an interesting deal from the Habs side. I am banking on Fowler having a rebound year. Even then it is likely he is only a Hab for 2 years max. Bear was intriguing as he showed he could play a reliable game for 20mins a night and was relied upon in a shutdown role. Bear has a good story and is still very young. So this is a deal I may look back on and shake my head.

Yeah I get that, but from my perspective, Maata is still young at 25, has a 70 rating opposed to 67, Maata has a 79 def rating vs a 64 IO think for Dunn, checking and passing for Maata are really good as well, and they're euivalent skaters. I also feel more comfortable right now with Maata in my top 4 and he can step in on a top pair.


Its a good trade for Vanc, they get some cap space, and Dunn is a decent offensive defenseman.


This trade still leaves me with Ovechkin move and what comes with that.

Once again the Canes needed to focus on improving their depth on the bottom 6. Lowry's 2.75M contract is a big number, but the Hurricanes plan on making it up by a gentle adjustments to the "Pure Dynasty" budget plan and will now be charging players for their official team verified hockey type
