Default RIP Ray Manzarek (The Doors)

http://www.cbc.ca/strombo/music-2/ri...the-doors.html

Quote:
Ray Manzarek, a founding member of The Doors and a musician who had a major impact on rock and roll, has died following a long battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74.

Manzarek, The Doors' keyboardist, founded the band after a conversation with lead singer Jim Morrison (who was a poet at the time) on a beach in California.
The story goes that the two men (both of whom were alumni of UCLA film school, where they met) ran into one another by chance on Venice Beach one day in 1965.

The first song I remember hearing was Rider's on the Storm. I remember my older sister playing it on a cheesy fisher price record player. I also remember that the kitchen door was open and it was sunny out and there was a breeze.

The doors were the Kings of not only visual lyrics, but of that unique keyboard sound that Manzarek created.

He was the serious face of the sometimes lunacy of Jim Morrison the lizard king.

RIP Ray

Hopefully you run into Jim wherever he is.

Manzarek's keyboarding is a big reason I love The Doors as much as I.

The guy did kind of make a living out of talking about Morrison though.

I remember my mind being literally blown when I found out the Doors did not have a studio bassist, and infrequently had one on tours, and that it was all Manzarek simultaneously playing the bassline and piano line.

was a talented person, RIP. I didn't listen to the Doors until long after Morrison died but really enjoyed their music.

I guess you could say he broke on through to the other side.

Well in this case there won't be a debate about whether he really died.

I often wondered when I was growing up if there was a cab driver in Mexico named Mojo Risen.

Didn't he also provide the baseline as well.

Second only to Morrison's hpnotic voice, Manzarek is the other signature sound of the Doors. RIP.

If it wasn't for the Oliver Stone movie I probably never would of got past the 3 songs they ever play on the radio. When I was at that time in your life when you really start discovering music on your own, The Doors were a revelation.

There are still new conspiracies coming up regarding Morrison's death.

Yup, nobody ever saw his body, they saw a sealed casket

He loved the Arthur Rimbauld story and told Ray to prepare for a call from Mojo Riesen after his death.

He pro bought his burial plot and was constantly hanging out there before his death

Nobody saw his body except for his girlfriend Pam, the doctor who signed his death certificate didn't exist

Suppossedly there were witness reports of Pam and Jim at the Paris airport saying goodbye after Jim's death.

There was a three day blackout between his death and when his family, friends, band mates, embassy personal etc were informed that he died.

Personally the romantic in me would love to one day see an older Jim Morrison pop up on stage somewhere alive to sing Break on through.

The pragmatist in me says nobody drinks that much and does that many drugs and gets out alive.
