Looks like he's a free agent. He was an assistant in Anaheim for the previous two seasons, but wasn't brought back for the 2017-18 season.
I saw one rumour that he has interviewed (or will be interviewing) for the job in Dallas.

If he can't find a HC job then yeah sure. Would be a good safe hiring in case the Peters experiment fails miserably. Can fill in as HC in case the worst happens.

This is from yesterday. LeBrun tweeted this just after tweeting about Peters talking with the Stars but being likely to sign in Calgary.

That's part of the reason I want an experienced assistant. MacLean, Ruff, Bylsma, something like that.

I don't know ENOUGH of his coaching to expertly have a valid opinion of him one way or the other (and I am sure there are some people who do have enough insight).
What makes you feel it would be a poor decision?
|
I just watched him take pretty much the best roster in the WHL and get completely out coached in the playoffs. He's got a reputation for being a complete a-hole, and lost the room 3/4 of the way through the season.
His system was one dimensional and he never adapted, players were not free to take risks outside of his system. They played his way to the end and it got them bounced in the second round.
The only good thing that would come from Calgary making him an assistant is that he's be the heck out of MJ and one of our assistants could move up.

He's saying Moose Jaw would be better off without Hunter. He doesn't like him one bit.

How so? I believe it would benefit Moose Jaw to move forward with a different coach. I cheer for Moose Jaw so while I don’t think he would be good for Calgary it would be good for MJ.

I'd like to see Adam Oates get a shot if he's available. He'd be able to get something more out of the PP.

Suspect he's vying for a head coach role, but assuming he doesn't land one, I'd be interested in Sheldon Keefe. Has squeezed a lot of offense out of the Marlies. Think he could do wonders with the Flames' PP.
